Re: JUNE 2015 -Typical Summer Pattern Returns

Those rainfall totals are stunning, and there are many more eye-popping numbers across the state and up into OK. I've been following the weather in Texas since the 70s and this is easily one of the wettest 2-month periods I've ever seen. Speaking of more rain, what are the dynamics unfolding around ...

Re: JUNE 2015 -Heavy Rainfall/INVEST 91L & Watching The Gulf

Any chance we could see some tornados today? Impressively dark, low altitude & swirly clouds here in Austin right now (4:10pm)

Re: A New Heat Record for Alaska

Not surprising. The Arctic circle, and the regions just south of it, are seeing the greatest warming. On a related note, the Pacific tropics (east and west) have already broken numerous records in 2015, due mostly to anomalous warmth of the oceans. Re: May 2015 Showers & Storms Possible To End May

A poster named Teco on another board astutely mentioned that the last thing our area (Austin to Houston) needs right now are high winds. Trees that normally can take 40-50 mph winds may fail and uproot due to the saturated soil.

Re: May 2015 Showers & Storms Possible To End May

The current line of T-storms stretches from central OK to past Big Bend. One of the more impressive lines of t-storms I've seen in a while.

Re: May 2015: Wet & Stormy Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

Sadly, it's now confirmed that 12 people are missing from the Wimberly area, per the Austin American Statesman. And that number could rise even more. http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/12-people-confirmed-missing-from-wimberley/nmNRz/ People all over TX and OK need to be very careful over the ...

Re: May 2015: Wet & Stormy Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

More perspective on the Blanco River flooding. Many cypress trees that were estimated to be 100s of years old were washed away. Also, it's possible the death toll will rise. I'm reading 2nd hand reports that friends/family are missing. Best hope is that these missing were able to flee before it was ...

Re: May 2015: Wet & Stormy Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

A large Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion for a lot of folks in Texas has just been issued. 4-8 inches of rainfall possible within the outlined area.
This is definitely one way to fill the central Texas lakes. Just hope everyone stays safe.

Re: May 2015: Wet & Stormy Memorial Day Holiday Weekend

If someone can take a snapshot of the flashflood watch area, I think it's worth keeping. I'm not sure if I've seen one that large. It covers almost all of Texas and Oklahoma, and stretches up to northern Missouri.

Re: May 2015: Severe WX Into Monday/Stalling Front

At 11:15 am, the wind in Austin has suddenly increased as though a cold front has moved through. Light rain with steady wind at 22 mph with gusts to 33mph from the SE.

Re: May 2015: Unsettled WX/Stalling Front Sunday-Tuesday

The Central Texas lakes still need A LOT of water. Here in Austin we're above average for the year, but storms have been missing the area 50-200 miles northwest of here where the watersheds are for the highland lakes. Current precip forecasts look somewhat favorable for that region, but the bullseye...

Re: May 2015: Unsettled WX/Stalling Front Sunday-Tuesday

Rough afternoon for folks in north TX, OK, and Nebraska. Was watching one tornado chaser video from southwest of OK City. He was parked with his camera trained on another car that was 6 feet from him. The wind driven rain was so blinding I almost couldn't see the car 6 feet away. Was expecting to se...

Re: February: Rain Chances & Turning Colder

The Artic Front is nearing SE Texas. Austin dropped 30 degrees in two hours from the upper 60's to the mid to upper 30's. It appears the cold front is stronger than the models suggested. Take your coat today. You will need it by Noon. ;) Re: stronger front that models suggested. I don't have access...

Re: January-Cold Rain Ending/Pleasant Weather Ahead

Kind of wacky precip going on in C. Texas. Temps in the area are colder than temps around Dallas/Ft. Worth. Perhaps the low is pulling down colder air due south from Panhandle while DFW area hasn't felt that influence?

Re: January -Hard Freeze Warnings/Wind Chill Advisories 1-7/

It may or may not be interesting to note that here in Austin the temps are warmer than forecast. It's 49 at Mabry at 11:30am. Yesterday, I think the forecast high was low 40s. Front has moved through now so temps will start falling. I'm guessing this means front moved a little slower than forecast 2...

Re: Fall 2014 - Winter 2014-2015

Ugh. It's looking like outdoor sports (soccer tournaments) in Dallas and San Antonio for this Saturday are going to be difficult to impossible. Is the rain event for these cities a long duration, or could it happen earlier in the day and start to clear by afternoon?
