A New Heat Record for Alaska

On May 23, 2015, Alaska set a new record for earliest day with temperatures in the 90s. As described by climate.gov, a daytime high of 91 °F was measured in Eagle, AK, where temperatures have been recorded since the 1890s. This image shows the surface air temperature from 23:00z on May 23, 2015 using NOAA’s Real-time Mesoscale Analysis. The warmest temperatures are colored orange-red, colder colors are colored blue.

Not surprising. The Arctic circle, and the regions just south of it, are seeing the greatest warming.

On a related note, the Pacific tropics (east and west) have already broken numerous records in 2015, due mostly to anomalous warmth of the oceans.

A late season shot of cold air resulted in temperatures around freezing in many locations in the eastern Interior on Tuesday morning. Many of these locations saw temperatures in the 80's less than 10 days ago.

Low temperatures tonight for this area will be slightly warmer. Visit weather.gov/fairbanks for the latest forecast information.

family in MN reported their newly purchased & planted flower plants froze this week, they had a low of 26

a friend in ND set his houseplants outside to water & forgot to bring them in, they also froze...

I couldn't live there !
