Origin of the Hurricane Ike forerunner surge

Storm surge before the main storm surge. It was observed with 1900 Galveston, 1915 Galveston, and Ike. Ike produced higher forerunner storm surge 24 hours before landfall. This suggests 1900 and 1915 hurricanes were large like Ike.

I would not be surprised if this happened with Katrina or Haiyan (Yolanda) or happens in Bangladesh and India. Bangladesh is known for monster storm surge due to the cone shape and shallow nature of Bay Of Bengal.
