Just saw this article about a heat burst in kansas - where around midnight, the temperature suddenly spiked 20 degrees in a span of 20 minutes - very interesting read!

I experienced this in Lubbock a few times. It's very spooky indeed. Especially at night with some lightning, strong winds, and mud balls falling from the sky - it's like a scene in an Armageddon movie.
