Alvin is in that club. Some of the data is dubious, but could be likely it happened. Not surprisingly they are mostly from tropical cyclones.

World Rainfall Records for 24- and 48-Hour Periods
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/weathe ... trynum=262

118.13 inches fell in 48 hours in Reunion Island at Baril 1600, a weather station. Reunion Island have many rainfall total record due to its mountainous terrain. Mountains draw more moisture from the clouds, especially on windward side. All those heavy rain in Reunion Island are from tropical cyclones. 118 inches is equivalent to about three years of Houston rainfall average! :o

The highest confirmed rainfall total outside of Reunion Island is 64.45 inches in Isla Mujeres, Mexico from Hurricane Wilma. It is the highest on any flat land. However, I think it is very possible during Hurricane Mitch that more than 65 inches fell in 24 hours in the mountains of Central America.
