New Year's Eve Weather
Will have to keep an eye on the redevelopment to our southwest as the latest surface analysis is indicating better moisture starting to stream into our southwest counties along the nose of a 50kt 850mb jet stream. This will continue to provide plenty of lift across southeast Texas through the early afternoon and is likely aiding in the rather quick redevelopment of convection across areas that saw the strongest storms this morning. With the increase surface dew points, low level instability will be on the increase and we may see a slight increase in the tornado threat if any storm can get rooted at the surface in the better moisture field. Everything should start to taper down late this afternoon and evening as the main trough swings by and off to the east.

Moderate to heavy rain here in League City. 1.41" so far with more to come as training looks to be setting up. Just heard low rumbling thunder down to the SW as I am typing. This rain is well needed but as usual I will get more than is needed.

While one batch is moving out, another is moving in from the sw. Montgomery and Harris County residents should expect more heavy rain.
Be safe, folks.

The thunder is really booming now in the distance in NW Harris County. Keeping an eye on that activity in Ft Bend/Wharton Counties.

It's been raining cats and dogs here in Ft Bend county for hours, if this keeps up we may have a flooding issue.srainhoutx wrote:The thunder is really booming now in the distance in NW Harris County. Keeping an eye on that activity in Ft Bend/Wharton Counties.

I'm seeing some clearing to the W now, so after this complex shifts E we should be done for the evening. Certainly did help the drought situation, though.

Widespread 2-4" across Houston. I think I've had close to 3.5" so far. Check the rainfall map at the Harris County Office of Emergency Management website:

Check out that healthy and impressive line of thunderstorms in eastern Harris County approaching Baytown and other cities beleaguering it. Have their been any reports of strong gusts of wind/hail being produced so far?
No hail here or winds.....though I have gotten at least 3 inches of rain and still falling in Pearland....Pearland Parkway is almost flooded at 518...
my neighborhood has water over the roads

Just imagine if this were thundersleet or thundersnow.
Still thundering and lightning here in Baytown. Don't know how much rain we have had but all the ditches are full and the yard is covered with water. It has to be at least 2+ inches - probably closer to 3 inches. Crazy thunder - really loud and close and continious.

Dang!!! What is wrong with the forum? It either loads very very slow and times out, or it does not load at all. I was barely able to get in this time.

Expect some brief heavy showers W of the main action as the last piece of upper level energy swings through. Good overall model performance with this disturbance, as guidance kept 'hitting' on the Middle TX Coast. On to the New Years Eve storm…great to see everyone active...

What does next week look like temperaturewise, highs in the fifties/forties? By the way, how good did the rain that southeast Texas received today abate this vicinities drought?
