Got ~5.5" of rain in the front of Kingwood between 3:45-4:30. Dime sized hail. Another 15 mins and it would have been in the house. The water made it higher than it ever did during Harvey or the preceding flood storms. Took a good hour for the streets to clear of water.

The elementary school was just about to let out so cars were stacked on the main road when the storm hit. 3 or 4 are still there so I assume they flooded out.

Also lost a medium sized branch from our maple tree in the backyard. Came within a few feet of hitting the roof, which was scheduled to be replaced today. Might have to wait until week after next now based on the forecast.

Edited to add that Kingwood HS flooded again. Saw video of students sweeping the water out one door while it was coming in the other one. Heard a rumor that Kingwood Park HS also flooded but haven't seen proof.

Pretty amazing how many tornado warnings there have been across the region today. Highly unusual for this region. Most models including the GFS were hinting that tonight would have the best chance for strong storms and that is seeing more and more likely.

It kinda looks like the worst of the line is going more towards Victotria and Corpus and the part headed towards us is mainly just moderate rain. Unless it fills back in?

Our home in Kingwood flooded with Harvey - but thankfully we didn’t even come close to flooding today... but so many people in Kingwood did get some water in their home with this storm. The rain was unbelievable! This picture was taken today at Maplebrook elementary (1960 and West lake houston parkway facing towards Kingwood). There is a definite line of large trees, fences, and debris by the large HEB at west lake houston and Kingwood Drive.

Interesting to note the split in the heaviest convection is currently on track to move through most of Central SE Texas. Models do show some intensification in this area, but it will be interesting to watch.

Eh, more like plenty of instability. Shear isn't bad though, that is why we were seeing some tornadoes through the day.

Southern Plains Storm Total Precip composite loop: http://tempest.aos.wisc.edu/radar/spPcomphtml5.html

Important Precipitation Composite info

These maps of NEXRAD estimated storm accumulated precipitation are created by compositing the NEXRAD Level 3 storm total precip product (NTP) from many different radar sites. Each radar site defines the time range of accumulation as "since the last time this radar switched from clear air mode to precipitation mode," thus the time range of accumulation varies for each site.

As each NEXRAD site will have a different time range, it doesn't really make sense to attribute a time range to the composites, since any time range wouldn't apply to the entire picture. The composites can give an idea on how much radar estimated precipitation has fallen over a region, but be aware that the time range for each contributing NEXRAD site varies.

The National Weather service plots of Storm Total Precipitation do include the start and end times for the accumulated precip for each radar site (on the right side, right above the image,) so those could be consulted to help make sense of the values seen in the composites.

I hope the League City folks are getting there night time meal, now, before the bottom falls out. The Austin office is probably ready for this to end and pass it along to League City NWS.

It appears the MCS is showing signs of strengthening and has developed more on its northern flank. This line that seems to be developing quite well is moving more eastward than sse/se. If it can maintain intensity, which it very well may do, Houston should finally get in on the action that the rest of Texas has been getting the last few days. Areas south of I-10 will need to monitor this closer with the potential for straight line winds pea to nickel size hail and even a possible quick spin-up isn't out of the question. Will need to see if a good outflow boundary pushes out ahead of the main line.

I'm amazed the atmosphere was still energized enough for another round. I thought for sure the earlier storms worked everything over.

That's true for areas north of I-10. They had a line of storms come down I-45 Thursday morning before quickly collapsing as it reached the I-10 corridor. They also had a round late last night and then some action up there earlier this afternoon. Places south of I-10 have been fairly quiet all week with little if any rain. So atmosphere hasn't been worked over and the cap is not a problem like it has been all week for those areas. I don't see much in the way for these storms to significantly weaken/collapse in the next 1-2 hours.
