The unseasonable warmth continues. Here in Austin we've blown today's record high of 77 out of the water. It's 84 at the airport and 79 at Camp Mabry at 2 pm. Temps may go higher. This will be the second day in the last week where we've set new record high temps.
Hang in there. It's snowing next week....lolPortastorm wrote:The unseasonable warmth continues. Here in Austin we've blown today's record high of 77 out of the water. Thursday morning cold front arriving across SE Texas at this hour having passed College Station and Brenham bringing gusty NW winds and cooler temperatures today across all of SE Texas later today. Gone will be the record warmth we have been experiencing as temperatures fall to a more seasonal regime with overnight lows in the 40's and certainly much less humidity as well as ending the foggy conditions that has stranded many ships offshore of Galveston preventing them from entering Galveston Bay and the Ship Channel the past 4 days or so.
Except the rollercoaster pattern to continue as a warm front moves N Friday ahead of the Baja upper low that has been stationary begins to lift NE ahead of a deepening Western trough. Will need to monitor for the potential of isolated thunderstorms New Years Eve with the possibility of some heavy rainfall where the stronger storms develop on Saturday into early New Years Day.

HGX is receiving some reports of sleet falling in Bryan/College Station. Most of the precipitation appears to be virga, but don't be surprised if a couple sleet pellets fall across our Northern Counties.

National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX

.UPDATE...
Another update to tweak high temperatures down 1 to 3 degrees
today with cloudiness and virga/showers/sleet. Also added IP to
the weather grids from the FWD border down to Houston given
potential for extreme wet bulbing, and the numerous calls, social
media posts, and videos of some light sleet sent to us.
