man, we got really lucky Ike took that turn and didnt push the main surge right up the ship channel and wipe out West end Galveston. Also lucky it didnt bomb out to a cat 4 before landfall. That double eye wall after exiting Cuba really kept him down. He didnt get his act together until the outer bands started landfalling. Land friction tightens up the core.
