STAY HOME, PEOPLE!!!
I can't believe all the idiots driving around the city. Emergency personnel are rescuing people all over Harris County. You don't need to get to work today, your job will still be there tomorrow. I can't even get to the office and I'm a meteorologist. Another round of heavy rain is moving in now. Don't become a flooding victim - stay put!

Not sure if I've ever seen this, an unbroken chain of TX counties stretching from Uvalde to north of Conroe. Maybe during a tropical storm, but don't ever recall seeing an area that large under flood warning.

Wow. Just wow. The rainfall rates for two hours this morning were staggering. Houston Community College and Humble ISD are closed today. Vivid lightning and thunder to accompany it. We are safe ( high part of the subdivision) and the water is draining. I agree with Wxman 57. Please stay off the roads. Please. There is more coming and you do not want to get caught.
Seriously!! What are these people thinking.. smh.wxman57 wrote:STAY HOME, PEOPLE!!!

Looks like the line is steadily heading south towards the Gulf of Mexico. Heaviest rain seems to be over for me. At least for the time being. Time to look west and see what develops out there.
My work has told all of us to stay home for the day. Which is nice!

Dumb 'ol Aggies still having class with lightning and a Flash Flood Warning in effect. We've been spared super heavy rains (3.1 in IMBY), but this event won't subside all day.

15Z UPDATE...
AFTER EVALUATING THE RECENT RADAR/SATELLITE TRENDS AND
OBSERVATIONAL DATA...DID NOT SEE ANY REASON TO CHANGE THE
OVERNIGHT EXCESSIVE RAINFALL OUTLOOK. SECTIONS OF THE HIGH RISK
AREA OUTLINED HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING HOURLY RAINFALL RATES IN THE
2 TO 3 INCH RANGE WITH ISOLATED OCCURRENCES NEARING 4 INCHES. THIS
HAS ALREADY LED TO WIDESPREAD FLASH FLOODING WHICH HAS INCLUDED A
NUMBER OF WATER RESCUES. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL HOURS...THE
CONVECTIVE COMPLEX HAS GRADUALLY NOSED SOUTHWARD WITH HEAVY
RAINFALL SPREADING TO LOCATIONS SOUTH OF I-10 ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN
TX. UNFORTUNATELY...AVAILABLE CAMS THIS MORNING HAVE NOT BEEN OF
MUCH ASSISTANCE GIVEN THEIR POOR HANDLING OF CURRENT ACTIVITY. THE
12Z EXPERIMENTAL-HRRR WAS THE CLOSEST TO REALITY WHICH SHOWS A
REASONABLE EVOLUTION OF PERSISTENT WEST-SOUTHWEST TO
EAST-NORTHEAST CONVECTION AFFECTING SOUTHEASTERN TX THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON HOURS. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT HEAVY RAINFALL
ACROSS MANY LOCATIONS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING FLASH FLOOD
CONDITIONS.

NWS WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
1055 AM EDT MON APR 18 2016
AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHEAST TX...SOUTHWEST LA
CONCERNING...HEAVY RAINFALL...FLASH FLOODING LIKELY
VALID 181452Z - 181900Z
SUMMARY...VERY INTENSE RAINFALL WILL CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTHEAST TX
THOUGH EARLY AFTERNOON AS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PERSIST.
DISCUSSION...THE LATEST GOES-14 SRSO VIS IMAGERY SHOWS AN
EXPANSIVE AREA OF THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS SOUTHEAST TX WHICH ARE
PRODUCING VERY INTENSE RAINFALL RATES. ALREADY THERE HAVE BEEN
OBSERVATIONS OF 15 TO 20 INCHES OF RAIN ACROSS THE NORTHWEST
SUBURBS OF THE HOUSTON METROPOLITAN AREA GOING BACK TO LAST
EVENING GIVEN THE INCREDIBLY SLOW MOVEMENT AND REPEATING NATURE OF
THE CONVECTION.
THERE HAS BEEN SOME EVIDENCE OF A GRADUAL SOUTH AND EAST PUSH TO
THE CONVECTION OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS...AND THE GOES-14
SRSO VIS IMAGERY SHOWS A WELL-DEFINED OUTFLOW BOUNDARY
REPRESENTING THE LEADING EDGE OF THE CONVECTION. LARGER SCALE
FORCING CONTINUES OVER THE REGION AS RIGHT-ENTRANCE REGION JET
FORCING IS IN PLACE ASSOCIATED WITH A 90-110 KT JET MAX RIDING UP
THE EASTERN FLANK OF THE UPPER LOW OVER THE CENTRAL ROCKIES.
MEANWHILE...THERE CONTINUES TO BE A FEED OF VERY MOIST AND RATHER
UNSTABLE AIR LIFTING NORTH OUT OF THE WESTERN GULF OF MEXICO.
PWATS OF 1.7 TO 1.9 INCHES AND MUCAPE VALUES OF 2000 TO 2500 J/KG
ARE NOTED OVER THE WESTERN GULF OF MEXICO AND THIS WILL CONTINUE
TO LIFT NORTH INTO OUTFLOW BOUNDARY AND WILL SUSTAIN CONVECTIVE
DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS WITH VERY SLOW CELL MOTION.
THE HIRES MODELS HAVE BEEN DOING A VERY POOR JOB IN ACCURATELY
DEPICTING THE CONVECTIVE EVOLUTION THIS MORNING...BUT ONE AREA OF
AGREEMENT IS THAT THERE SHOULD A TENDENCY FOR CONVECTION TO LOSE
SOME OF ITS ORGANIZATION GOING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL
BE A RESULT OF THE AFOREMENTIONED JET DYNAMICS ALOFT STARTING TO
LIFT OUT TO THE NORTH AND AWAY FROM SOUTHEAST TX COUPLED WITH SOME
DECREASE IN THE LOW LEVEL INFLOW OFF THE GULF OF MEXICO.
NEVERTHELESS...EXPECT ADDITIONAL RAINFALL RATES OF UP TO 3
INCHES/HR...AND ADDITIONAL TOTALS LOCALLY OF UP TO 6 INCHES GOING
THROUGH 19Z. THIS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT FLASH FLOODING.
ORRISON
ATTN...WFO...CRP...EWX...HGX...LCH...SHV...

Heavy band of rain is moving south. Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston Cos. should be tuned to NOAA Radio, online NWS reports, multimedia meteorologists for the latest.Stormrider wrote:Rain beginning to fall in Galveston. Concerned that the high tides will aggivate possible flooding.
