Hi Everyone

Keep your eyes to the skies the next couple of days
Starting Sunday and going into Monday we'll see some rain coming in
Some areas could see flooding - so please monitor your weather.

This will set up a rainy pattern for us
(but think how wonderful our bluebonnets will be!)

wish I could post pictures but somehow it never comes up.

Had a wonderful time speaking to GCOEM CERT group about the disability community and preparing for emergencies.

Hope y'all are staying dry.
I know I'm looking forward to this sunny/no rain weekend.
I'm so glad I figured out how to post pictures

We could see some heavy rains across our area this coming week.
Please begin to monitor your weather Tuesday, especially on Wednesday.

I am here to report that bluebonnets are beginning to bloom
there is an upside to this rain

Hi all,

We travelled to Austin for a long weekend. It was nice to see the sun again for a few days. There were areas along Hwy 71, between Austin and Columbus, where the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush already had a nice number of flowers. They are still at least a few weeks away from peaking, but they were a lot thicker up there already than what I see around here locally. I was surprised at some of the patches I saw considering how chilly it has been up there.

Here at home, the bluebonnets are just barely starting to show up here along I-45.

Seems like everyone got out of the Houston area this past weekend searching for "sun".
I ran into so many folks from the area and the sunny smiles went for miles.
It was lovely to see the start of blue bonnets & paintbrush. I think with more rain this week,
they should really start to bloom along 1/45.

KUDOS to Brazoria County for being on top of the Hurricane Expo game
Just got an invite to their County Expo Fair -
although its in July, (July 11th) the table for hurricane preparedness for People with Disabilities will be there.

I know it's early to start talking about Hurricanes/Expos, but it's never to late for preparedness!

The 2015 Houston/Galveston Hurricane Workshop will be held June 6th at the George R Brown Convention Center. Perhaps we can get a group to meet up at Discovery Green this year for lunch. ;)

Spring has definitely Sprung in the Southern Plains this evening - 3/25
Seven tornadoes ripped through Oklahoma...
Spring is one of those transitional seasons when anything can happen
in a split second. It can get wild. So from our friends at NOAA here is some
great advice on how to dodge those twisters and anything else Mother Nature can spring up:
Stay safe. Be weather aware.

Hello Friends

GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS? :lol:

Before you know it June 1st will be here and this will start our Hurricane Cane Season of 2015.
NOW is the time to begin to prepare and plan for you OR those who may be disabled in your family
April is a great month because you will have to:
THINK & COMMUNICATE with your support group and/or family/
GATHER important papers and other essential materials you may need,
IF you need to evacuate or even if you plan to "hunker down". You got to have that plan.
Once that storm is in the GOM, It's too late.

Don't be scared - lets get PREPARED!

1) Lets register with 211 OR your local Office of Emergency Management
(I will list those next week and where the transportation hubs are at for low lying mandatory areas)
IF you don't have to take a bus out to evacuate- lets start speaking to our family or support group on how you will get out.

I know I have written extensively in this little forum about hurricane preparedness but a repeat is good:
I also say over and over again:
YOU KNOW YOUR DISABILITY BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE to survive.
ALso
IF YOU depend on electricity to live - (cuz breathing rocks!) get out!

How would you continue an independent lifestyle if you had to leave to stay with family and or friends?
Stay in a shelter? Or even hunker down? Do you have papers and food for your service dogs?
Information and other essential things for Children that may accompany you?
These are the questions that will help you build your plan. Now.



NOW I just want you to start thinking/communicating/gathering important papers you may need and REGISTER if you need transportation out.

Next week I will focus on transportation hubs for low lying areas and the second most asked question I get
"who do I listen to in an emergency" -

Please read the following information concerning the new warnings for SURGE this coming year.
It's important you read it and understand this BEFORE hurricane season
Understanding SURGE will help save lives - as it kills more than the winds.
If you remember IKE...the surge came in days before the storm, and many people were cut off from evacuating.
If you need any help, PM me.

THIS!

In cooperation with the National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service Forecast Offices and NOAA, we are beginning the process to educate our folks on a new experimental Storm Surge Watch and Warning Product to be introduced the Hurricane Season. The Storm Surge Watch and Warning Product will be issued separately from what we have experienced in past years when storm surge was part of the overall Tropical Watch/Warning/Advisory Products issued. The new Storm Surge Watch and Warning Products will be issued separately. Rising sea levels associated with storm surge is a function of wind speeds, the size of the Tropical Storm or Hurricane, astronomical tide levels and the forward motion of the Tropical System as well as the way the Tropical System will approach the Coastline (from what direction the storm is coming from).

The slope of the Coastal Shelf as well as elevation ABOVE THE GROUND are included in the new Super Computers to predict what the rising storm surge will be. We will be involved with the organizations listed above in getting the word out to the public and I encourage you to begin discussing with your family, friends, co workers and particularly those with Special Needs such as our Disabled Community these Storm Surge Watches and Warning Changes prior to the beginning of Hurricane Season 2015. Full implementation of this new Product is expected by Hurricane Season 2017. Also, we will begin to see smaller Cones as forecasting skill has increased or improved. Remember that rising water from Storm Surge kills more people than the wind and you must leave if your home is in areas that are affected by rising Storm Surge before the Tropical System nears the Coast.

We got some more serious weather coming in tonight - Sunday and into Monday.

Severe Weather Expected Through Monday Afternoon

What is the danger?
A band of strong thunderstorms will move through Harris County beginning overnight Sunday with the most hazardous weather - heavy rains, strong winds and possibly hail or tornadoes - likely to occur beginning Monday morning and into the afternoon.

What you should do:
Numerous watches and warnings may be issued so it is important to monitor local media and the National Weather Service for up-to-date forecasts on Sunday night and Monday morning.
The timing of these storms means it is likely to impact the Monday morning drive time. Check Houston TranStar’s real-time traffic map for road conditions before leaving home.
Heavy rain can cause scattered street flooding and ponding. Driving into flood water is the leading cause of flood-related death. Don’t be a victim! Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Hello Friends
Had the wonderful opportunity of working with our awesome KHOU MET David Paul in
Galveston. He was taping a PSA on "Hurricane Preparedness" I was audio asst. It was such
a pleasure to meet him and to speak with him. He truly cares for the community.

Speaking of PREPARE...are you ready for this week - beginning 5/10? we're up for
a week of HEAVY RAINS/FLASH FLOODING/GUSTY WINDS. I want you to be weather
aware this week. Great rehearsal for cane season.

After this week is done - I will post the HUBS/TRANSPORATION information for those that need a way out
of harms way so we can get our plans ready for cane season 2015 - YOU have registered with 211 by now, Right?
OR...gathered your family/friends/support group and spoke with them about transportation OUT of
the area? Right? Right.

Tropical Storm ANA came early to the Carolinas - you see how fast as system can whip up....
