I don't think there was much hope at all for any rain reaching Harris tonight...Cloud2ground wrote:Hope they hold together. No, I don't want tornados in the area, but a good light show would be nice.

Bryan needs to look out tonight! Storm to its NW has re-stregnthened and now has a TVS signature with obvious rotation on radar! also, hail larger than golfballs possible.
P.S. Also watching outflow and smaller storms developing to the large cell's SW.

Fairly descent CU Field developing along with showers to our SW. Perhaps we can squeeze out a sprinkle or two today.

What is averting showers and thunderstorms from forming here in southeast Texas, srainhoutx? Wait, I believe that I figured out what and why. Rectify if I am wrong, but a cap of inverted air? How does the warm and cold air become reversed in the first place, wind/pressure?

A lot of high pressure building in sleetstorm. The Upper Ridge looks to last at least until next weekend, if not longer.

That dome of high pressure is simply causing the air to sink which is the reason why showers and thunderstorms are not forming or at least not forming as numerous and not becoming as intense as what they could if there were no cap.

Hey, at this point, we will gladly and thankfully take what quantities of rain that we receive from clouds and thunderstorms, right?
Absolutely!sleetstorm wrote:Hey, at this point, we will gladly and thankfully take what quantities of rain that we receive from clouds and thunderstorms, right?
HPC drawing in a weak surface trough draped across SE TX Friday. Here's hopping it'll be enough to enhance rain chances!
I notice Central Texas has thunderstorms and some are training and dumping heavy rain.

0z GFS centered on IAH has a total of 0.00 for the next 15 days. The model flattens the repressive upper ridge a bit early next week for a few days, but even that isn't enough for to generate much rain. That doesn't rule at an isolated shower or two around the area, but otherwise rain chances remain bleak.
Guess it's time to use my rain making skills and go wash the truck.
Anyone know the surf temp for Galveston's west end?
Two boundaries, one working up from the south and another moving in from east, may provide for some action in the next few hours..
