At 8:00AM College Station dropped to 21F that tied the record of 21F set in 1970.

Record low maximum temperatures have a real chance at being set today for IAH where the current record is 38F. The mid/upper cloud deck appears likely to keep in check our temperatures close to the freezing mark across SE Texas and that disturbance crossing Mexico may offer a slight chance of light snow across portions of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

We will have to see, John. The Mexico disturbance is moving almost due E, but the Arctic High is settling S now toward Central Texas and just how far S it can 'push' that cloud deck remains to be seen. It's likely going to be a close call.

The pressure has reached 1040 mbar here now. According to wxman over in the s2k forum the high may get east enough to stop temps from falling early tonight. He said they may not fall to as cold as last night. We will need to watch to see if temps continue to fall after midnight. There are a lot of things that could go wrong to keep us from reach lower 20s/ upper 10s (cloud cover, shifting winds etc).

The pressures are even higher across the Austin area and still rising to 1043mb. The Ridge appears to be near San Angelo at this hour. That suggests to me that the Arctic High is to our W and will likely have little to no shifting to the E before we could reach the best chances of record or near record low temperatures. By the way, why has wxman57 not been posting here on KHOU? Has he forgotten about us?

Not sure why he hasn't been around here. But he thinks the wind will shift and stop us from cooling down around midnight.

Dewpoints are nearing single digits in the area and temps will fall rapidly if the skies clear out...can't see tonight being warmer than last night.

While it is still a long way out and we will moderate beyond mid week with increasing rain chances into the weekend, there continues to be indications via the telecommunication indices that cold air will return beyond the mid month time frame. The 12Z GFS is suggesting some wintry mischief across portions of Texas just beyond the mid January time frame. We will see.

Nothing related to our weather but Atlanta is supposed to be 5 degrees tonight/tomorrow morning...windchills in the negative 20s....
Imagine if this had taken a more southerly flow and we got it head on....that would've been crazy.

The 12Z MOS/MEX/MAV guidance for 18Z (Noon) is verifying rather well for IAH and LIX (New Orleans). This suggests the overnight temperatures of the mid to upper teens may be possible. Currently IAH is 34F. DW Hooks is 32F. My temperature is sitting at 31F in NW Harris County. I may not rise above 32F today up here if the trends continue.

We're still sitting 30 degrees in downtown Austin. Progged high is 35 which was adjusted earlier this morning as the progged high from the overnight crew was upper 30s. We'll be lucky to get above freezing obviously. Kinda interesting in that within five days, none of the models I know showed high temps this low in Austin.

Wow, computer models underestimating cold air advection in Texas ... imagine that.

Looks like Houston will break it's record min high temp for today if it holds at 36. The temp to beat is 38.

Dewpoint now at 4 degrees...will it go negative?

I have a feeling Beaumont will bust as well. Temps were forecasted to be 39 today. According to my personal site at home, so far we have reached a high of 32. Ice still frozen in water puddles from yesterdays quick rains.

We're sitting at 38F, have moved up a few degrees today but not much. Our forecast was for 40, probably only 30 minutes or so to get there.
