April Weather Discussion.
Less MCS and more of a line now...
If a MCS tries to develop, that will be worse than a squall line. Squall lines are brief, while MCS are prolonged. I have a feeling, we will see some nasty storms.wxdata wrote:Looks like an MCS is trying to develop out west rather than an actual squall line.
What was it like?Katdaddy wrote:Could this be the beginning of another 1983 May severe weather event?
I'm hoping to at least hear a good thunderstorm here in the kingwood area...it's been a while and i miss it

There is a fairly large storm NW of Austin right now. Keep an eye on that one. It's developed a bow shape in the last 1/2 hour.Ptarmigan wrote:If a MCS tries to develop, that will be worse than a squall line. Squall lines are brief, while MCS are prolonged. MCS can form into tropical cyclones during the season. Many tropical waves that form in Africa come from MCS. A good example is Hurricane Ike that formed from a MCS in Sudan.

Took nearly a month for Ike to travel from Africa in a cluster of thunderstorms to Houston as a monsterous hurricane.
I think we maybe dealing more of a heavy rain event tonight.
Yes. Reports from Kempner (near Lampasas) of 60 mph winds and golf ball size hail.texoz wrote:

I'm also a little concerned with the storm down by Crystal City with what looks like a hook echo.
Heading off to sleep, hopefully. Enjoy the fireworks tonight, wxdata.
Had to take one more look at the radar. Waco is about to get blasted, around midnight.

At 4am-ish I hand it to srainhoutx (the early riser he is!)
So far that line isn't charging east very fast...
I think this will also be a flooding event.wxdata wrote:So far that line isn't charging east very fast...

There seemed to be a developing hook echo down by Crystal City a few minutes ago as well.sau27 wrote:looks like there are 3 cells SW of san antonio that have hooking features

Hurricane force winds reported in the Waco area.
Both the NAM & GFS insist the front passes metro Houston around sunrise-ish.
It may be a weak inversion ahead of the front...Ed Mahmoud wrote:Why are all the radars so noisy tonight?
