Last Freeze of 2012

I'm trying to plan for our Spring garden. Does anyone know when the last freeze is expected AND does anyone know how severe any remaining cold weather will be, i.e. the lowest it will get and for how long (as per past trends & current conditions)?

It's too early to call but a general rule of thumb is to assume March 1st.

We've had a last freeze as early as January or as late as April.

Freezes can happen as late as April. Generally, freezes are less likely to happen as winter progresses towards spring.

The answer depends on what you're planting - how sensitive it is. We're not having much of a winter here this year. In 6 of the last 11 Februarys we didn't see any freeze. Have to watch out between the 10th and 20th of February, though. Could see upper 20s if everything falls into place. By the 20th of February we should have a good idea if another freeze is likely.

I'd say the last freeze of 2012 will happen sometime in December.....
