Have had over 2'' here on the far west side so far today with some good moderate rain continuing. It looks like there is some high water in the northbound lanes of I-45 the gulf freeway at the 610 south loop. Good low level moisture convergence continues to support heavy showers and thunderstorms across central and southeast Harris county, down into northern/eastern Brazoria and Galveston counties. It looks like the main line of storms which has been slowly pushing east across the city all afternoon is merging with a second band of the convection that had been moving across eastern Galveston county up into the Pasadena areas. Harris county rain gauges showing some very impressive rain totals between the 610 east loop and the east belt across Pasadena/Galena Park where storm totals will likely exceed 6-7 inches as the main line hasn't even reached those locations yet. Watch out for some significant street flooding to begin as the drainage systems are likely becoming full after a good 8-10 hours of precip. It would not surprise me if the NWS eventually puts eastern Harris and possibly Galveston county under a flash flood warning at some point this afternoon as there is no indication of this system weakening much over the next couple of hours.

Looks like the disturbance is in Brazoria County and moving north... may halt the eastward progression of this MSC... hopefully rain for a little while longer!

I don't recall this much and a long rain in a year. The funny thing is that the NWS and HPC predicted that we would not get the heavy rain. It comes to show that predicting the weather is not that easy.

1" last evening and 2.5" today for a total of 3.5" in Westbury. Ground is squishy like a wet sponge. Grass and trees are happy.

I almost can't believe it!! I measured 2.10" at the house - the most storm total in over a year!! Yipee!!

I think we will see a line of showers and t-storms come through with the front with good moisture in place. It's good to see these fronts coming down with moisture this fall season....a HUGE change from the past two years when 98% of the fronts were dry.

Got woken up last night around 1:20am from the rain. That was the hardest rain I've seen fall in a long time, more than the other day. Instant flooded streets. Another week without sprinklers!

Good to see some received a bit of rainfall last night across the NE and Eastern areas. We were dry up here in NW Harris County. It looks like we are headed back to a dry pattern and fire danger is again in the picture as a cool front swings through bringing an end to the moisture and increasing N to NW winds along with 'cooler' temps the next several days. There is a bit of interesting news for those that follow the MJO. It appears the strongest pulse in many months is heading toward our part of the world. While any tropical activity in Texas remains remote, there are signals that this very robust MJO pulse will lead to activity increasing the Western/Central Caribbean and far Southern Gulf of Mexico. The models are hinting at increased tropical activity in the Bay of Campache/Yucatan region S of the trough/frontal boundary in the days ahead. A rather deep East Coast trough looks to develop and a ridge builds over Northern Mexico. The Pacific is changing to a more active period with an almost zonal flow in the medium to longer range and even hints of a big Upper low off the West Coast and perhaps an active sub tropical jet. We may see a return flow off the Gulf become established next week that might bring rain chances back into the picture. We will see. Now for a bit of off topic news. As you may have noticed, I've been absent a bit over the past month. I've had some pretty major health issues that put me in the hospital a couple of times since mid September. I want to thank jcarr, wxman57, Andrew and Katdaddy for keeping up with things during my time away. I was released yesterday from the hospital from my latest stay and hopefully this chapter is nearing and end. Please know that I am feeling better and will be on the mend for the next several weeks and will be back to my 'old self' in a couple of weeks. Thanks to all that 'knew' what was going on and sent messages of encouragement. I am looking forward to seeing what the fall will bring and will be looking for that first 'true' fall cold front.

I woke-up this morning, left for work, and noticed everything was wet like it rained overnight.

I wasn't expecting much, but to my amazement I found .60" when I just checked the gauge! October has been a very good month so far in the rain department

Thanks gang. It's good to be home. It appears that our first good cool front of the fall season will swing by next Tuesday. Guidance is in good agreement on frontal passage next Tuesday in the mid day time frame ushering in gusty N winds and much cooler temps. Lows in the 40's with highs in the 70's look in the offing. The down side is there will likey be Red Flag Warnings yet again. The drought and fire danger continues...sigh...

Well other than this past weekend, it's been dull and quiet weather wise, anyway. And the 12Z GFS suggests more of the same... sigh

The first ligit fall cold front of the fall season is scheduled to arrive Monday into Texas. The front should pass quietly (little to no rain) Tuesday morning/mid day. HGX is even hinting some possible upper 30's in the out lying areas Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Gusty NW-N winds and very dry condition should bring Red Flag Warnings for Tuesday and Wednesday. Rapid fire growth could become a real problem, yet again.
