It looks like another day of scattered storm chances across the area. While I saw no rain here yesterday, those that did saw anywhere from 1-3 inches particularly in Montgomery and Liberty Counties were the strongest storms fired off. Any storms today may offer the same threat of damaging winds and very heavy downpours as yesterday.

We had some merging cells right over the Porter area yesterday evening. I watched it all blossom. It was like suddenly someone dumped lake Houston on top of our head.

Very, very nice rain. Something this area has not had in months.

HCOEM reports 1-3" up there last evening. Nothing across most of Houston, though.

The sea breeze is developing between Galveston and Palacios. It also looks like some higher dew points lie across the central areas and showers are forming NE of the Metro Area.

KSHV radar shows exactly what you speak of, Steve. Folks in Montgomery and Harris Counties, with points north and east should be on the lookout late this afternoon/evening. I'm seeing some indications that the northern portions of said counties will get in on the action this time. NW Harris, Conroe, Spring, etc. Radar returns from on own area suggest decent possibilities for many, if this trend continues.

Wxman, thanks for the totals. My house received some of the higher totals you speak of. It was such a relief and blessing.

I find myself torn between "needing to water the lawn" so the currently dark spots of grass don't die & waiting until afternoon storms "might" hit our area... I would feel guilty if I wasted the water if we might get rain later... never an easy choice :(

Storm firing across the N and NE zones as well as along the sea breeze boundary. Storm motion looks a tad slower than yesterday as well...

Talk about splitting hairs. I've got a storm to the southwest of me and another one just to the east of me dumping some serious rain in Conroe. My wife is running an errand in town and said it's a turd floater. Not a freakin drop at my house. Looks like I will miss the storms once again today. Someone just go ahead and kick me in the arse now!

Another day of isolated showers/storms ahead with slightly lower pw's across most of the area. The good news is that rain chances will continue for the rest of the week and even deeper tropical moisture surging into our area as we head toward the weekend.

I wish I could bring this wonderful Montana weather back home to Houston. Currently 52F with a high of 79F. Beautiful storms yesterday. A small dust storm followed by pea size hail.

I had a very nice view of the Space Station this evening as it traveled across SE TX...sad to see an era pass on Friday (weather permitting) with the launch of Atlantis...

Astronauts Arrive at Kennedy for Final Countdown
Mon, 04 Jul 2011 01:58:56 PM CDT

On the Fourth of July, the four STS-135 crew members arrived in two T-38 jets at NASA Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility at approximately 2:30 p.m. EDT. Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim spoke to media before being transported to the Astronaut Crew Quarters in Kennedy's Operations and Checkout Building, where they will spend the next few days training and spend time with family before liftoff.

"I think I speak for the whole crew in that we are delighted to be here after a very arduous nine month training flow and we're thrilled to finally be here in Florida for launch week," said Ferguson.

Launch of space shuttle Atlantis is scheduled for Friday, July 8, at 11:26 a.m.

A combination of a weak cold front draped to the N in KS/MO/AR and the Upper Ridge to the W along with an upper low in the Gulf may favor storms dropping S later in the day across E TX/W LA. We will see…

I was wondering if that was the ISS we saw while biking down to Miller Theater to see the fireworks a little after 9pm. We were stopped by a slow-moving train just inside loop 610. Looking to the ESE I pointed out a fairly bright "satellite" to my wife. Looked at my watch and it was around 9:13pm (can't guarantee that old plastic watch has the right time, though).

It was probably the best and brightest view we had up here in NW Harris County in a long time. It was a treat since normally on the 4th of July the sky would have been lit up with fireworks and smoke up this way.

The 12Z WRF and NAM suggest storms dropping S from NE TX later in the day/this evening and perhaps a left over boundary near our area for tomorrow.

It was the ISS because I saw predictions for it last weekend and July 4th was one of the days for it to be seen at 9 PM. I have seen it many times. Sometimes I see ISS during sunset and other times at night when there is astronomical twilight. It looks easy to photograph through a telescope, but it is moving really fast. It is like trying to catch a bullet going at 11 miles per a second!
