I know some are asking what in the world has been going on. Well, our growth and activity required a Major Upgrade to a new dedicated server. That process has been completed. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thankfully the weather has been quiet and this was the perfect time to complete such an Upgrade. A special thanks to KHOU and their IT folks that worked tirelessly the past 36 hours to make all this happen. We are grateful for all you do to provide us with an excellent platform and the commitment you've made to our Weather Forum Community.

Good to have the forum back, and upgraded to boot. Big shout-out to all that made it happen.
Enjoying the relattive warmth here in Galveston. The fog? Not so much.

FYI: There may still be some issues ahead and expect some downtime as the IT folks and our server hosting company 'work out' some bugs. I have been informed that all activities should be fully completed by early next week (Monday/Tuesday).

I'm glad the Forum is back.
Was beginning to experience withdrawal symptoms.

I was pretty worried, didn't know if the forum had got the cut or not. Pfew..
In future down-times, perhaps Srain/mod can log onto the old "z.forum" and post a status on what has happened to the new forum. I see the old forum is still there, so maybe we can use it as a back up?

One other thing I was thinking about is how many people have facebook or could check it? I was thinking about creating a group where I could update it with news about the forums during downtime.

Dude, i have wondered that so many times. Why don't we make a group? I'm sure some people would not feel safe, but 98% of us have user names that don't link us to our name, so what's the risk?Baseballdude2915 wrote:Andrew wrote:One other thing I was thinking about is how many people have facebook or could check it? And yeah, i think almost everyone here has facebook. Its 2011, come on man. LOL
I was wondering what happened. Now, it's back. When I try to load z.forum, it loads slowly.

Someone already made a group there once , a while back, but whoever did it, hasn't posted anything in a LONG time though.Andrew wrote:Baseballdude2915 wrote:I was pretty worried, didn't know if the forum had got the cut or not. Pfew..

What is new about this forum, srainhoutx? It remains the same to me. Is it what I do not see or something of that nature?

That Facebook link Mrs.Frosty posted is just a actual profile, that would not be the route to go. What we need to make is a "group" that we can "join". A "page" that you can "like" wouldnt be as good as a group either. LOL, tried to make it simple.

That was the goal, sleetstorm. We were afraid that we would have to change everything. KHOU made it possible to keep our existing platform format that we all have become used to. What is happening is we are on our own dedicated server that we do not share with other forums. That means we are operating faster and can hold more data and can handle more executions or activity that will benefit us during high volume times such as we encountered during the recent winter weather events ( we were averaging 84,000+ executions per hour ) and any future events such as tropical troubles. This was a big step and shows just how much we've grown and how many folks are following our activities and postings.sleetstorm wrote:What is new about this forum, srainhoutx? Yay! Glad everything is back up and running! I kept expecting some sort of message about the forum to show up on my Facebook KHOU news feed...but nothing. I was getting a little concerned! Even though I don't post very often, I read everyday, several times a day. I felt lost without my "weather fix"!

FYI: Just a reminder that we may experience some down time (Monday-Tuesday) as the final transition to our new dedicated server is completed. We hope that this final transition will be seamless and that any down time will be at a bare minimum. The staff of KHOU, their IT folks and our server hosting company will be working hard to make effort to keep us up and running and have all remaining issues completed as quickly as possible. Thanks for your understanding as we work to make these improvements to our Weather Forum.
