Colorado weather december 27- january1
I am going on a ski trip to snowmass on the 27th. I know it is a long way off but i was wondering if the general pattern would support some sort of winter storm in Colorado during that time? I would really love to see a good winter storm while being there. thankyou for any input.

Found this cam of Buttermilk. Hopefully the West Coast trough will develop and add to the snowpack. It's been a bit tough in across the Southern Rockies this season for natural snow. Oh, and remember the board requirement that have to bring snow back with you!

My favorite area is doing rather well, though...

The Rockies have actually been getting quite a bit of snow so far this fall. Looks like you'll have plenty of snow there for your trip.

Looks like an active period so far snowman for seeing some snow. Keep reminding us during this busy Holiday period and perhaps wxman57 can give a full report before you depart.

Looks like i am going to be seeing a good winter storm! Although I read that there could be the possibility of the formation of a TROWAL on steamboat springs discussion. I was wondering if srain or wxman could give me there opinions on if a TROWAL will form?
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAND JUNCTION CO
330 AM MST SAT DEC 25 2010
.LONG TERM...MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...
THE GFS SHOWING SPOTTY QPF ON MONDAY AND MONDAY NIGHT AS WEAK PACIFIC
ENERGY SPLITS WHILE MOVING ACROSS UTAH AND COLORADO. WESTERLY FLOW
BEGINS TO CONSOLIDATE ON TUESDAY IN ADVANCE OF A SIGNIFICANT DEEP
COLD TROUGH THAT WILL DOMINATE THE WEATHER PATTERN DURING THE LATTER
PART OF NEXT WEEK. MODELS STILL RESOLVING THE DETAILS BUT CONFIDENCE
IS HIGH THAT A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT THE ENTIRE
FORECAST AREA...BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY AND LASTING INTO FRIDAY.
ISENTROPIC ANALYSIS AT VARIOUS LEVELS SHOW A WELL STRUCTURED AND
DEFINED BAROCLINIC SYSTEM WITH WARM ADVECTIVE MOISTURE STREAMING
ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA. MODELS DEPICT A DEEPENING SURFACE CYCLONE
AS IT MOVES ACROSS THE CENTRAL ROCKIES...SUGGESTING THAT THIS SYSTEM
IS QUITE DYNAMIC AND PCPN IS LIKELY TO BE WIDESPREAD. IN THE LOWER
VALLEYS...PCPN MAY START OUT AS RAIN BUT SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER TO
THE VALLEY FLOORS AS THE POLAR FRONT MARCHES ACROSS THE REGION ON
THURSDAY. THE GFS AND EC MODELS SHOW A STRONG SECONDARY SHORT WAVE
THAT CARVES OUT A CLOSED LOW OVER THE FOUR CORNERS...PULLING COLD
CONTINENTAL AIR SOUTHWARD AND EXPECT TEMPERATURES TO PLUNGE TO CLOSE
OUT 2010.

I'm not sure about the TRWOAL terminology either, but I see a storm that may dump 1-2 feet of snow through the Rockies in Colorado from Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning. Have fun!singlemom wrote:PS: What is a TROWAL and where is the Steamboat discussion????Snowman wrote:Looks like i am going to be seeing a good winter storm! Thanks wx! If you see any systems closer to the end of January, would you *please* let me know? We have to drive from Denver to Steamboat because my *friends* who made the reservations (lol) didn't think there was an airport in Steamboat....grrrr. Still, can't wait!

For you, Srain (okay, and for wx as well), I'll bring back some snow in my suitcase. *Woot! Steamboat passed the 170" mark!!"
Hey everyone
We're a week away from leaving for Steamboat. We're driving (at night) from Denver to Steamboat.
Can anyone look in their Magic 8 Ball and see if any significant storms are passing through next week (that would, say, delay flights)? We leave on Tuesday.
Thanks, guys!
