NWS down to 34 tonight. If the wind stops, it’s gonna get frosty and very cold in unprotected pockets. Not taking chances - plumerias went back into the garage and I’ll cover my Ti plants later. The rest will be fine…

2 months of no winter and now we get a super late freeze to kill everything that bloomed.

30°F at the CLL airport on campus. 28.2°F low IMFY. The last light freeze of the season. We've had about 15 freezes this year. That and the high sodium and CaCl2 in the water are why I don't have tender or tropical plants. We're good. Anything to knock down the mosquitoes is a good thing.

In Aggieland, we see a light freeze around Spring Break every year. Then 80°F in a couple of days!

DP of 13°F - really nice out in today's sun with a very light breeze.

A dominant upper-level ridge and surface high pressure will continue
to block incoming strong frontal systems. Therefore, we can expect
little to no rainfall over the next 7 days.

Oy - crank up the sprinklers and A/C

This is a serious ridge of high pressure. Much of the CONUS will be warm

To have a ridge be above 594 DM heights with 100/110 degree temps beneath it is serious business for mid March! So thankful for the current weather around here for sure!

GFS has a couple of ULLs defeating the ridge in late March. No other model else does, unfortunately.

As I stated, this ridge is impressive for this time of the year. HGX..

"Quiet weather is expected throughout the next several days as
surface high pressure remains in the vicinity with ridging aloft.
Currently the upper level ridge is over the West Coast centered over
SoCal/Baja California with the midlevel ridge`s heights over 590
dam. These 500mb heights are well above the 99th percentile in both
the GEFS M-Climate and NAEFS Climate percentiles for this time of
the year. Midlevel heights over SE Texas should climb above the 90th
climatological percentile on Thursday, and stay there for the
remainder of the forecast period. By Friday, 850mb temperatures
reach 14-17C, in 90th to 97.5th percentile compared to NAEFS climate
and are expected to remain there through the weekend. In addition,
the ECMWF Extreme Forecast Index (EFI) shows values of 0.70-0.95 for
max temperature, with shift of tales values approaching 1-2 over
portions of eastern Texas during this period."
