Conroe Ramos at I-10/SH 99 are ice covered with vehicles now stuck on the ramps. These ramps are closed.
Ice is reported at several bridges on US 290 with connector ramps being closed at SH 99
Stay off the roads in N/W Harris County

Everything around here is coated in ice, albeit, it’s a thin layer, but we were able to get to freezing here much earlier than you guys around Houston.

Got close to an inch of sleet here based on overall yard depth. It piled up 2-3 inches where it drifted off the roofline.

Something similar here. The thundersleet last night was pretty cool. A classic NC ice storm....The driveway is an ice skating rink and roads are icy for now. The conversion to mostly sleet was fortuitous as it avoided major power line downeage.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 7:23 am Probably .3 inches of freezing rain and a 1/4 inch of sleet on top is my guess. I’ll confirm.
We're at 21°F now after a low of 20°F. I'd be surprised if we made it to 30° under cloud cover. Low tonight in the teens.

11:30AM Sunday Freeze Line Update:
The freeze line has made it through most of Southeast Texas, and everywhere you see 26° or colder, assume that the big flyovers and connector ramps are frozen over. I'm talking about all those locations north and west of Houston, like the Grand Parkway flyover at I-10 where an 18 wheeler got stuck.
Meanwhile, I was able to make it to the American Meteorological Society's annual conference downtown before the freeze line set in. On my way back to the TV station, I noticed that most surface streets on my route had dried up, but some very large puddles remain that will eventually freeze up if still around when the bitter cold air blows in overnight.
Be wise when out on the roadways, especially if you must travel tonight or tomorrow morning while it is still dark.

Raised roads = ice for sure. Even those on ground level will see icy patches.tireman4 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 8:37 am National Weather Service
8:20 AM Sunday: Just because precipitation has stopped falling from the sky does NOT mean that the threat for icy roads has ended in the Houston metro! Here's a zoomed in look at the current position of the freezing line across the Houston metro, which will sag southeastward more through the morning. Temperatures have dropped into the 20s across western Harris County, which will cause concerns for remaining water on roadways to freeze, especially bridges and overpasses.

Yeah that warm nose mixed down- my concern last night. But it should be leaving as the massive system moved to the NEtireman4 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 25, 2026 9:02 am From Travis Herzog
A “warm nose” of air about a mile above the ground (where temperatures are still above 50°) has so far spared the city of Houston from any major problems. How do we know this warmer air aloft is helping keep us above freezing? Because in many places along the HWY 59 corridor it got below freezing, and then when the thunderstorms blew in, the temperature warmed up a few degrees as the rain was falling.
Now that the precipitation is departing, the freeze line will try to move back in. Elevated roadways (like the big flyovers and connector ramps) may still freeze over where temperatures fall into the 20s because the humidity is so high and moisture remains on the ground. This is called a “flash freeze.” Surface streets should stay fine in many places south and east of Houston, but use caution on the roadways. I would recommend using DriveTexas.org to check up on frozen roadways and road closures if you venture out.
Regardless of what happens to roadways in your neck of the woods, a hard freeze is coming the next two nights, and that’s when you’ll need to protect your pipes.
All things considered, Houston is about in the best position you could have hoped for at this time, and our team will continue to monitor things for you throughout the day and night.

It could have been a lot worse, but it's nice to see some white on the ground and roofs, with a just enough ice to make the plants look cool without damaging them. The ice will also protect the plants tonight. Allegedly, we'll be in the teens for 2 nights and avoid single digits. Two 5°F night did in some bushes and some of the St. Augustine in 2021.
