Can't find the front at all on radar or doppler.

It’s diffuse because we have low pressure forming in SW Texas with frontal-genesis taking place. It basically arcs across the state with winds north of it from the N/NE and winds to the south from the ESE/SE. The cold air will seep-in in waves.
This isn’t a case where you’re gonna see a classic “blue norther” roll in and a massive sudden temperature drop. It’s evolving over the next 24 hours as the storm system comes together over Texas.

IMO, HGX needs to add Montgomery and Grimes counties to the Ice Storm Warning.

Another reason forecasting is tough. Jason is correct. The cold air is coming in waves. I had first stated two to three days ago that it would be a drastic drop in temperatures when the front would come through( I was looking at the models and extrapolated the vatiables). I was wrong. It is a tricky business. Loljasons2k wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 6:55 pmIt’s diffuse because we have low pressure forming in SW Texas with frontal-genesis taking place. At 7:30PM.
The freeze line is advancing across the DFW Metroplex, already into Tarrant and Denton Counties.

Right. As the low moves across the state it's going to drag the really cold arctic air from the north (and wrap-around moisture) behind it. It could be a wild ride.jasons2k wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 6:55 pmIt’s diffuse because we have low pressure forming in SW Texas with frontal-genesis taking place. At 6PM Friday, arctic air is pouring through west Texas and the Panhandle, and the computer models are absolutely blowing it on just how cold that air is.
Here is a comparison between reality and the European computer model forecast valid at 6PM. The European model predicted it would be 16°. Instead, it's 7°. In fact, the European model doesn't show it hitting 7° in Amarillo until Sunday night at 11PM...
This is one of the models that also still insists Houston won't get below freezing while it is raining Sunday morning, but because that air in West Texas and the Panhandle is what is coming our way Saturday night, I don't think it will be right. In fact, even the colder guidance that says we will get a lot of freezing rain still thinks the air is warmer than it actually is...
So I say prepare for an icy mess across most of Southeast Texas Sunday morning that could remain frozen to the ground until Monday afternoon, and we'll continue to refine the forecast for you over the next 24 hours.

Euro doesn't do well with shallow arctic front.
Here's my best guess on the FROPA location per location and some windmaps. I'm having a beast of a time embedding the last month or two.
From south of Sonora to just north of Austin to the Brazos Co. line and north of Madisonville.
