So all of the Hou TV meteorologists are falling for the ol' banana in the tailpipe and thus are now inadvertently downplaying temps and the likelihood of frozen precipitation. Yikes!

<0.1 inch of ice expected for my area now. Hopefully it will at least rain. I have cracks in my yard that look like the middle of summer.

This is just my opinion so don't come after me I'm not forecasting anything here lol. It seems like this isn't as strong as the 2021 storm. nothing south of I-10. Its legit if you are in central or north Texas but I thought it would have more *** behind it with all the talk of temps but it just doesn't seem like it has the strength to push anything frozen remotely south of I-10 or the coast after all the hype and hoopla about it Again this is just an opinion so be nice

Maybe that’s because the temps won’t be as bad and the likelihood of problematic frozen precip is falling. Lol.

It’s fairly normal for the GFS and sometimes the Euro to lose the depth of the cold and delaying the arrival of the cold but not ALL models which is what I’m currently seeing.

All I'm saying..
is that the warm and slow bias is there as far as I am concerned because it is always there with these air masses.
To what degree, I can't say. How far off will it be with the temps and timing, I have no idea.. but I will expect there to be some bias because there always is.. from my perspective

Aint no point in going on 2k its wall-to-wall coverage of north Texas and Oklahoma. never understood why they don't make a Oklahoma thread for them instead of using the Texas one.

For a few reasons. First, the users decide what threads we have. Second, because it’s two or three posters and what happens upstream in Oklahoma is often very relevant to Texas. Third, because it’s another thread to moderate for what would be less than a dozen posters.Brazoriatx979 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 8:54 am Aint no point in going on 2k its wall-to-wall coverage of north Texas and Oklahoma. never understood why they don't make a Oklahoma thread for them instead of using the Texas one.
We’re an all volunteer staff and we do our best.
We can’t have a separate thread for every state. If you did a heat map of users on S2K, Texas and Florida outnumber every other state combined. That’s why those two states have their own threads. Hope this explains the reasoning.

Would there then be any possibility of separate Northern Texas / Southern Texas threads?jasons2k wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 9:06 amFor a few reasons. First, the users decide what threads we have. It’s something to consider, I can chat with VBHouTex next time we have lunch (long overdue). But just being honest, we only see this much Texas traffic a few times a year. so again, is it really worth the overhead/logistics to manage two separate threads, that if split, would be pretty slow most of the year… ? There are pros and cons to both but for the most part, the setup we have now works out for most people on the forum.LightningBolt wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 9:16 amWould there then be any possibility of separate Northern Texas / Southern Texas threads?jasons2k wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 9:06 amFor a few reasons. Not to change the subject, but that next blast at the end of the month looks wild..... Yes, I'm sure it will change many times, but check out the GFS for pretty colors.

I just invented a new term on S2K.
