The model always underestimates cold air. As the week moves forward forecast will shift and trend colder

Made it down to 26°F this morning, definitely wasn’t expecting that. First time all season the forecast temp busted low.
Wanted to add to this that the feels like temp made it down to 14°F this morning as well. That’s freaking cold!

This is the UK Met. First, I am not on board..yet. Second, it is so hard to predict the potential of frozen P Type issues in the CWA. Third, the trend is your friend. I would buy into parts of it 5 days and further in. Right now, enjoy the colors.

I wouldn’t get too excited yet about the models. I wouldn’t be surprised if they start trending in the wrong direction come tomorrow. I’ve seen this show before. If we can get it inside of 100 hours then we can start talking.

Would like to see a gulf low form near Brownsville and ride up the coastline for those of us in SETX.

What matters is that it shows frozen precip in portions of SE Texas. It's too far out in range to get hung up on where the models show the freezing line at this point in time.

The FROPA on the 25th across the model/Ensemble board looks more robust. Me likee.
Whether we can get some moisture in combo is probably dicey.
But hey, the FL panhandle and Macon, GA received snow yesterday.

Most of SE TX is experiencing frozen precip. As usual, the southern 1/3 doesn’t. That’s usually how it happens.Brazoriatx979 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 11:59 amMind you, im still learning but, isn't the green rain over se tx and not frozen?

Unless you get a Gulf low to form or models start coming in a few degrees colder. Gulf low would be ideal for all of us here though.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 12:21 pmMost of SE TX is experiencing frozen precip. As usual, the southern 1/3 doesn’t. Fortunately for me, my team was not even close to the playoffs. We wait for more model runs.Brazoriatx979 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:37 pm The front is going to be like cj..teasing us with what could be..but ends up with losing out on the game and winter weather lol
