TXDOT is plowing I10, I45 and US 59 and will then begin working on other freeways. With lighter snow amounts plows will be able to make better progress and are retreating to help melt/ break up ice. Most

Skyovers/connectors have heavy ice/slush.

SH 225 remains closed and will likely remain closed potentially into Wednesday


Very cold temperatures tonight will refreeze any melting into a layer of ice.

Enjoy it while it lasts! The sun will be out this afternoon for most of us. I’m OK with that, don’t want to lose my mule palms in some crazy single-digit freeze.

Yes, sun is already breaking out in my area. I'm guessing that melting can occur surprisingly fast?

Not to mention, there's also the sublimation process.

I think both the sun + warmer temps melting, along with sublimation, can mitigate the snow pack a bit. Continued sublimation into the night should add more water vapor to raise the dewpoint (hence, prevent temps from tanking).

My official measurement in Baytown is 5 inches. I found as many flat open areas as I could and got really consistent data.

By "flat, open area", are you just referring generally (e.g. any flat area, like a grassy field). Or do you specifically mean flat surfaces (e.g. table tops, flat boards, etc).

For example, if I measure on my sidewalk, it's around 1-2 inches. But, areas like corners, certain car tops, etc seem to have higher drifts (4+ inches).

Also, is there a way to adjust with respect to actual snow (as opposed to any ice/rime skewing the measurements)?

I am in Richmond and we still have a good 3-4” in the ground in the grass. The streets are slush and will be hell in then morning though

Measuring on top of a table or similar would be fairly accurate

I only measured in open grassy or dirt fields that were completely flat with no structures or corners or fences or trees or anything around to skew the totals.. no concrete, no elevated surfaces, every measurement I took was between 4.85 and 5.15 inches. So I feel pretty solid about it

While we have experienced some melting on the snow this afternoon there is still lots of slush, water, and ice on many areas roadways and as temperatures fall this evening below freezing (7-8pm) much of this is going to freeze resulting in extremely hazardous driving conditions into midday Wednesday.
A more significant warm up into the low 40’s Wednesday afternoon unde sunny skies will make significant progress in the melting and travel recovery with only isolated issues likely remaining into Thursday AM with temperatures falling back into the 20’s.
Travel is not recommended until after noon on Wednesday and even then use caution.

Yeah, we were dry slotted. There was a lot more snow in the bands that hit Navasota. Crazy.

Well that was fun. Kids and the whole Neighborhood enjoyed the snow. Kids were saying this felt like Xmas . Lol.
