December 2024
Gee, glad I got that rogue shower yesterday because today I didn’t get a darn drop - when it was supposed to actually rain!!
The trough and cold air shifts from east to west in the New Year. Concerned about Lucy parked in Texas again...The Ensembles look seasonal. It will still be better than Christmas week.,
Texas will get some shots of cold air over the next 3 months. Just gotta be patient. Second week of January is looking like a decent bet right now.

GFS 00z says lets have a cold new years eve lol
Beautiful weather the next few days. Let’s enjoy it!
I don't trust any models anymore. Lol
Even with this warm pattern I’ve had 8 freezes so far this season. We hit 28 this morning and have two more freezes in the forecast this week. The warm ups have been very brief here as there have been fronts every 2-3 days. Of course it helps being 400+ miles away from the Gulf also.
Well, we'll have to give you more latitude now.don wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 10:13 am Even with this warm pattern I’ve had 8 freezes so far this season. We hit 28 this morning and have two more freezes in the forecast this week. You're farther north than Atlanta.

Ensembles are in very good agreement on a big pattern change coming around new years day, havent seen a setup like this in quite a while, that kind of a pattern could spell fun for the deep south, but definitely a much colder pattern for sure
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
The GFS has been teasing a colder pattern around the New Year's period (not so much on Euro and Canadian).
With that said, I'm curious to see how long we go through winter without a frost (at IAH/HOU). Just want to observe the behavior of vegetation/rainfall responses in mild years versus colder years.

Congrats to the Columbus Cardinals on bringing the first state championship to Colorado County!
In addition, congrats to the Jackson County Ganado Indians on their first state title!
There are your HGX state champions.
Here’s to my hometown rivals of Kilgore and Carthage sweeping 4A today!

Being from El Campo, we despise Kilgore and Carthage lol those two schools must have a different breed of boys going there cuz I swear, no team from our part of TX can ever get past them in the playoffs. They have D1 players it seems like every year and El Campo is lucky to have one D1 player every 5-10 years lol I always say as long as Kilgore (Carthage is 4A D2 now thankfully for us) remains in 4A D1, we’ll never make it to state.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 7:28 am Congrats to the Columbus Cardinals on bringing the first state championship to Colorado County!

And your Lobos just can’t get over the hump. Every year it seems like they make a deep run, but just can’t ever get into that state game. Very frustrating for Longview. I was pulling for them last week against SLC. So tired of all these DFW area schools dominating TXHSFB. I feel like Dallas South Oak Cliff is gonna beat Richmond Randle tonight as well.
But I’m very proud and happy for Ganado and Columbus. What a huge deal for those small towns.

Don’t bring up that SLC game. We had every chance to win it.Cpv17 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 8:05 amBeing from El Campo, we despise Kilgore and Carthage lol those two schools must have a different breed of boys going there cuz I swear, no team from our part of TX can ever get past them in the playoffs. USA Today put out an article a few years back on the best towns in America for homegrown NFL talent per capita.
Longview was #3 and yet we only have one state title in my life. We have been to 6 championships in my lifetime.
Kilgore was #13 in the nation and Carthage was #24. Carthage has better coaching and I know Scott Surratt well. I know all of those Surratts well from playing against them.
And yes, East Texas is a different breed of athlete in the smaller classifications.
Yes, I have SOC handling Randle quite easily

That’s why they call ETX Beast Texas when it comes to high school football lol El Campo is one of the oldest high schools in Texas and has only been to state twice and lost both times. We just don’t have the athletes to compete deep in the playoffs. The only way a team from around here could compete with those guys is to have a hell of a coaching staff and a top notch QB and those are really hard to find. That’s what makes Columbus so good.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 8:20 amDon’t bring up that SLC game. Well, my high school has been in existence since 1928 and has never won a state playoff game. It has only made the playoffs 3 or 4 times and their best year ever was 7 and 3. That year, both La Marque and Texas City won state championships ( from their district) They were third. The high school. Santa Fe. Lol. I disagree with the folks saying South Oak Cliff takes it. I think it is Richmond Randle who wins. Zonal flow is in abundance this upcoming seasonal week. January looks interesting
14-0 Randle so far. Great atmosphere here at Jerry World! My nephew is the long snapper/backup center. Let’s go Lions!tireman4 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 2:23 pm Well, my high school has been in existence since 1928 and has never won a state playoff game. Richmond Randle won state 38-35! Dallas South Oak Cliff missed the game tying FG at the end. Take that Dallas area!!
It's 27 this morning with a wind chill of 19 degrees.
My local forecast was saying it was 35 in Georgetown last night, but two separate thermometers at my place only got it down around 44-45
