...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Tuesday Night)
Issued at 218 PM CDT Mon Oct 14 2024

A weak frontal boundary over the Brazos Valley/Piney Woods area is
slowly making it way southward this afternoon. This boundary should
be just a tad north of the I-10 corridor this afternoon, resulting
in a rather noticeable temperature gradient. Areas north of this
boundary will see highs in the upper 80s/mid 90s. Due to
compressional heating, areas to the south of this boundary should
see highs in the mid/upper 90s inland. Along the coast, these highs
will be in the upper 80s/lower 90s. The weak frontal boundary should
stall out near the coast this evening. Drier conditions north of
this boundary, along with clear skies, should bring lows in the mid
50s/upper 60s inland. South of this boundary, along the coast, ample
moisture should keep lows in the mid 60s/lower 70s. With moisture
pooling ahead of the stalled boundary, patches to areas of fog could
develop early Tuesday morning, mainly in areas south of I-10.

Expect one more day of abnormally hot weather on Tuesday, with highs
in the 90s inland and upper 80s along the coast. Later that night,
an elongated upper level trough over the Northeastern CONUS should
push a slog of cooler, drier air into SE Texas overnight. This
should usher in cooler weather, with overnight lows in the 50s to
lower 60s.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through next Sunday)
Issued at 218 PM CDT Mon Oct 14 2024

The cold front will be off the coast by sunrise Wednesday morning.
Still expecting breezy and cooler will be the general rule Wednesday
through Thursday night as surface high pressure behind the front gradually
edges off to the east. Wednesday`s highs will be in the 70s for almost
the entire area, Wednesday night`s inland lows will be in the 40s and
50s, Thursday`s highs will be in the 70s/80s and Thursday night`s lows
will range from the upper 40s to lower 50s north to the lower 60s south.
It will be breezy on Wednesday, and while inland winds come down after
that, winds will remain elevated along the beaches and bays and also
off the coast for the remainder of the week and on into the weekend.
By Friday, look for a slow/gradual warming trend to begin and then continue
through the weekend with highs back in the 80s while lows stay in the
50s and 60s (coolish nights and warmish days). Rain...if we get any
at all...should stay confined to locations in and around our southwest
counties and the Matagorda Bay area.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 1215 PM CDT Mon Oct 14 2024

Light west/southwesterly winds should shift northerly this
afternoon as a weak frontal boundary pushes across the area. This
boundary should stall out near the coast later this evening.
Clear skies, calm winds and pooling moisture south of this
boundary may bring areas of fog near the coast during the early
morning hours of Tuesday. Impacts will be most likely at KLBX, and
fog may become dense at times closer to sunrise. Any fog/cigs
should clear out after sunrise with VFR conditions prevailing on
Tuesday.

03

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 218 PM CDT Mon Oct 14 2024

Mainly light to occasionally moderate southwest to west winds and low
seas are expected through Tuesday. A dry cold front will pass through
late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning with moderate to
strong/gusty northeast to east winds and elevated seas developing in
its wake. Caution flags and Small Craft Advisories will be needed. Moderate
to occasionally strong/gusty east winds and elevated seas are expected
to persist for the rest of the week and on through the weekend. Elevated
water levels across the bays may be possible too.

98°F here today. We have 5 days of decent weather beginning tomorrow (2 days in the 70s then low to mid 80s), then 90s beginning next Tuesday again. Enjoy it while you can!

Drier than a rattlesnake's rattle through the end of the month.

Winds are gusting over 40 mph up here behind the front. We're supposed to drop down into the low to mid 40s tonight. Fall finally has arrived.

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday Night)
Issued at 325 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024

A relief from the heat, at last! A cold front is moving across SE TX
and is currently extending near Bay City/Matagorda Bay per radar and
satellite imagery. This is a dry FROPA, but we can certainly feel
its passage as gusty northeasterly winds have been reported at most
locations. Surface observations in the past couple of hours have
reported gusts from 20 to 35 mph with the higher gusts along the
barrier islands/nearshore waters. Scattered to broken low clouds
have also developed behind the front, but is expected to clear out
after sunrise. Breezy to windy conditions will continue through the
day, with the strongest gusts expected in the morning. This front
will also leave us with cooler conditions. Temperatures will be 20+
degrees cooler than yesterday! Strong cold air advection will keep
today`s highs in the 70s to near 80 degrees.

A chilly night is expected tonight. Light winds, mostly clear skies
and surface dewpoints mainly in the 30s degF will result in
temperatures into the upper 30s to mid 50s inland and into the low
60s along the coast. Cooler readings expected across the Brazos
Valley and Piney Woods area.

With the sfc high remaining strong across the central CONUS, fall-
like weather continues on Thursday. Highs will generally be from
the mid 70s to low 80s. Overnight lows mainly in the 50s.

.LONG TERM...
(Friday through Tuesday)
Issued at 325 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024

High pressure will continue to track northeastward on Friday,
allowing for east to southeast winds to return and with it some
warmer moist air from the Gulf. This will continue on through
early next week, resulting in a gradual warming trend Friday into
the weekend. The highs on Friday will be in the upper 70s to low
80s and is expected to increase into the upper 80s to low 90s by
Tuesday. The low temperatures will follow a similar trend but will
be more subtle with lows mainly in the mid 50s to mid 60s on
Friday and increasing to the low 60s to low 70s by Monday night.

Very little rain expected during the next several days as the
latest model guidance keeps the western periphery of the drier
air close to our region.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 624 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024

SCT to OVC low to mid clouds will continue through early this
morning across most terminals. The main aviation concern today
will be gusty conditions developing behind the FROPA. Gusts from
20 to 30 mph are expected today, with the strongest gusts in the
afternoon. Winds should gradually weaken this afternoon/early
evening. VFR conditions are expected through most of the period.

JM

&&

.MARINE...
Issued at 325 AM CDT Wed Oct 16 2024

Small Craft Advisories are in effect for the bays and Gulf waters.

A dry cold front is currently moving across Southeast TX and has
been developing strong easterly winds and gusts to near gale
strength. Seas are expected to build in the next few hours this
morning. Conditions will gradually improve tonight, however, the
local pressure gradient will remain tight through early next
week, maintaining moderate to occasionally strong east winds over
the bays and Gulf waters. Additional Caution flags and/or Small
Craft Advisories may be needed. Elevated water levels across the
bays are possible as well as an elevated risk for strong rip
currents over the Gulf facing beaches. Slight chances of rain are
possible mainly over the offshore waters on Sunday.

Finally. 64°F, down from 98°F yesterday. ENE wind. A good day for some outdoor exercise. Mowing wasn't that fun yesterday evening, but at least the DP was low. Classic back door front! It came through about midnight here.
