North Carolina/Virginia/eastern half of Tennessee or Colorado in a heartbeat.
Yep, every place had its pros and cons. Parts of Texas are beautiful. My wife is a 4th generation Texan and my kids, of course, are native Texans. At one time we wanted to get a place out by Dripping Springs (almost really happened back in 2005), but now it’s just too hot to consider it. Sad but true.

Geographically and “scenery wise” most of SE Texas is pretty boring. It’s mostly flat and what lakes and rivers we do have around here tend to be muddy and stinky in the summer. I could write a whole page on the brown beaches, brown surf, and air quality. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️

A lot of people would understandably never move to Florida with all the crazies down there. The cost of living has gone insane. In some places, the traffic congestion is total gridlock that rivals Houston. But like any big place, different parts of Florida have different very different personalities, scenery and climate. I much prefer the quiet beach communities on the west coast away from all the craziness of Miami-Dade, etc. If you know where to look, there are some locations that are very much a ‘small town’ feel but convenient to all the beaches, restaurants and tourist fun. Places like Dunedin, Gulfport, West Bradenton, Venice, Bonita Springs are great little spots.

I’ve never been to FL. I’ve only been to beaches in Texas and they’re so awful I don’t even waste my time going anymore. Even South Padre Island was gross. It’s probably been 10 years since I’ve last gone. The only time I’ll go down to the coast is to go fishing. And personally, I have no clue how some people even get into the nasty water of the rivers and beaches around here. That’s a hard pass for me. I was supposed to go to FL this summer, but that got thrown out the window when I found out my parents had cancer. I wanna go there pretty bad. Would be nice to finally see a nice beach for once in my life lol

The Hill Country west of S.A. or Austin... or Davis Mountains within the state of Texas would be my choice. Parts of the Piney Woods near Palestine, Temple, Henderson are nice and look a bit like the pine-filled woods of the piedmont from AL through NC. Waxahachie below DFW has an iconic little downtown and nearby Granbury/Glen Rose area has interesting terrain.

In Florida, I lean back to surprisingly hilly Gainesville and the drive to St. Augustine. The water and air remain crystal clean and clear. Palatka going over the St. John's River and St. Augustine haven't been ruined yet. A1A around there to Ponte Verda/Sawgrass is still a nice drive.

Georgetown is hot as hell the last two days. 106 actual. My new home can't cool below 76 when it's like this.

Boerne to Kerrville have enough altitude (1400-1800 ft) to take the edge off the heat, especially at night. They are a few degrees cooler than College Station all year round (day and night). Dripping Springs is almost as hot as CLL with a little better low temps.

Georgetown is like a drier College Station. The topography is a lot more interesting, but not enough altitude (755 ft) to take the edge off temps.

Cpv17 well youll love the GFS then! Thats one heck of a stormy pattern with a really decent cool down as well, Pow Pomder saids the cool down will make it all the way down to the gulf coast, pretty rare to have the NAO go negative this time of the year, so this should be a welcomed treat!

It's not much farther for us to drive to Gulf Shores or Pensacola vs. South Padre. Destin hopefully isn't too overbuilt now. The white sand beaches and clear water were amazing.

There's enough support for a stalled front near the beginning of September across Ensembles and models. Even TWC picked it up. Chance of rain next week - modest: 30%

That would take a local cocaine drug bust.

Less than 3 days to college freakin' football...there's my will to live.

The Yellow Jackets are going to shock the world against F$U in Dublin!

Just before we moved here, I was working in downtown Waxahachie for about a year. Very cool downtown and historic district. That town would be a great candidate for an "Old Town" show type of redo.

Waxahachie also happens to have the closest Braum's Ice Cream & Restaurant. If you have not yet discovered Braum's....you must. Trust me.

I was blessed with a fast metabolism because in High School, we had one right next to the Eckerd Express Photo I worked at. I would frequently have a cheeseburger meal for lunch followed by a banana fudge sundae for dessert. Even the fries were fantastic! Too bad they likely won't come down here. They have this rule similar to In-N-Out where their trucks will only go so far away from their Oklahoma dairy. By the way, I tried In-N-Out in The Woodlands the other day for the first time and I'll just say I'm in no hurry to go back.

Weather-related - they cancelled after school tennis practice today at the high school due to the heat advisory. The are thankfully using new guidance this year and taking extra precautions. My run this morning was hot!!
