August 2024
Brutal weather through about Friday, then the DR breaks down a bit and easterlies bring some rain for the following week, the traditional Aggie opening week.
CoCo - traffic was FUBAR today in CLL. It was like half of Houston moved up. A disaster.
TG just one week begins CFB. A lot of meaningless NFL preseason games but Caleb Williams can hit some tight windows 30-50 downfield for Da Bears.
I've given up on the Cowboys. Jerrah's in it for the money - I don't think he cares much about achieving a SB spot.

ND is going down! Elko understands very well that the key to stopping Riley Leonard is stifling his run game. Low 90s into the 80s at gametime. Chance of a stray shower.Cpv17 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:13 pmIf I can find good seats for a reasonable deal, I’m gonna try to make the ND game.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:10 pm Back from MT in time for some HS football this week and college the next. If you can make it to the tailgate, you’re welcome. I’ll have some of my grad school buddies from Ohio State down with their ND buddies. It’s going to be a large time.Cpv17 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:13 pmIf I can find good seats for a reasonable deal, I’m gonna try to make the ND game.MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:10 pm Back from MT in time for some HS football this week and college the next. God awful outside. My air conditioner can't even get it much below 75 at the moment.
Mine struggles to get below 77 or 78 every day during the summer from 12-8pm. Currently 99°F with a 111 heat index. Still not as bad as August 9th though. That was the worst day of the summer.
98°F
DP = 78°F
HI = 115°F
Much suckitude today, tomorrow, and Tuesday. Then there's a slight erosion to the mid 90s by the end of the week.

My gut tells me these next couple days will be the last of the super hot days. My gut is also wrong a lot. Lol

...New AVIATION...
.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Tuesday Night)
Issued at 311 AM CDT Mon Aug 19 2024
A strong mid-upper level ridge will continue to create dangerously
hot conditions across SE Texas Today and Tuesday. A Heat Advisory is
in effect through the evening as Heat Index values reach into the
108 to 112F range. Some locations could exceed 112F this afternoon,
which may warrant a short-fuse Excessive Heat Warning; however, with
HI values borderline, opted to keep with the current Advisory. In
either case, the call to action remains the same. Stay hydrated,
remember to look before you lock, check on vulnerable neighbors and
family. Pet owners, if the ground is too hot for your hands, it is
too hot for their paws.
Rain chances for today and Tuesday will largely depend on whether or
not showers and thunderstorms fire off along the sea and bay
breezes. Even then, rain will be isolated.
Nighttime lows will provide very little relief from daytime heating.
Temperatures will be in the 70s to 80s with humid conditions.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Sunday)
Issued at 311 AM CDT Mon Aug 19 2024
A diffuse backdoor frontal boundary will be situated across portions
of the area Wed and Thurs before eventually washing out Fri.
Though some higher moisture levels will be pooled to its south &
west, there`s some uncertainty as to whether subsidence from the
strong ridging can be eroded enough or overcome to generate some
tstms. GFS seems to be the more bullish of the deterministic
solutions indicating the potential...but even then, overall precip
coverage and chances have been trending lower with time. Will
maintain some lowish POPs with the hope that it`s right.
Though temperatures will still remain above normal, readings will
begin a slow decline beginning Wednesday with highs around 100 -
eventually trending back toward the mid 90s this weekend.
Long range guidance still suggests that an inverted mid-upper trof
in the eastern Gulf making its way westward under the ridge
toward the Texas & northern coast or Mexico Sat-Mon. With
increased moisture and less hostile capping/subsidence, this
should proved some scattered shra/tstm chances across southern
parts of the CWA and offshore. 47

I'm glad I'm not the one lifting all these boxes today to the moving truck. But naturally, my neighborhood decided today is the day to do maintenance to the water lines, so there is no running water. Such a pain.
Moving in August is the worst. Had to do it so many times myself when I was young. Hope the move goes well!!

(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 1223 PM CDT Mon Aug 19 2024
VFR expected across SE TX for much of the TAF period, with the
exception of MVFR conditions possible at LBX overnight into early
Tue morning due to patchy fog. Light VRB winds will briefly become
S-SW later this afternoon. W-SW winds expected Tue morning.
There are some lingering outflow boundaries from storms that
occurred early this morning across LA and may fire up a storm or
two this afternoon. However, chances right now look slim given the
persistent high pressure and the cap. Another area that could
develop iso storms will be along the sea breeze, but we will need
to see if it will be strong enough to fight the cap. Similar
conditions are to be expected on Tue.

GFS has a pretty wet pattern becoming established next week and beyond that, bring it! Daily chances for some needed rain, persistent easterly flow on the GFS, lets just hope that doesn’t involve a tropical system
Tomorrow is going to be brutal....and today felt like the surface of the sun.
Still, we won't touch the record, set last year of course. A Summer that shall live in Infamy.
There is the slightest hint of hope on the horizon.
