12Z WRF.Freezing rain starts in the metro area around 6 pm this evening, lasting most of the day tomorrow. This is why I said it was important to wait till we got within 48 hours of the event. I've seen this scenario play out multiple times here when it comes to winter precip events.

From HGX this morning regarding wintry precip.

Winter weather conditions are expected tonight into at least
Monday with mixed precipitation and brisk conditions. The
aforementioned front will stall over the Gulf waters today,
developing a coastal sfc trough over the Upper TX coast. In
addition, quasi-zonal flow aloft will bring a few weak shortwaves
over the region during the same time frame. In terms of moisture,
PW values are progged to slowly increase from the coast and
isentropic lifting will get stronger around 290k, suggesting
decent lifting. With that being said, precipitation is expected
tonight and Monday. Forecast soundings suggest a well saturated
profile with a pronounced warm nose aloft gradually developing
from west to east. This will suggest a wintry mix at the sfc with
rain, freezing rain/drizzle and light sleet. By daybreak (Monday
morning), light precipitation should be confined across the entire
SE TX with all but coastal counties receiving a mix of
precipitation. Precipitation will continue on Monday, gradually
tapering off from northwest to southeast by late Monday
afternoon/early evening.

Elevated objects such as trees, power lines and bridges quickly
iced over once surface temperatures dropped below freezing.
Forecast ice amounts continue to range from a light glaze to one
tenth of an inch for most areas. With all of this in mind, Winter
Weather Advisory remains in effect and has been expanded further
south.

Never understood coastal people expecting what inland counties get. That’s not the norm, at all. The chances of winter precip increase by factors as you go north from the coast.

This has always been the case. Yes, there are the rare storms that get ya, but I probably have 10x-20x the winter encounters over the last 20 years than Matagorda, Brazoria and Galveston have had.
