Looks like a big change in the upper level pattern is taking place this week, models are in good agreement that the SE ridge will begin to break down while the west coast trough will finally be on the move, troughing looks to setup over the central us now with a flattened SE ridge, 8-14 day from Noaa is trending towards this, ensembles are also trending colder as we get into march

As someone who is either 0 mph or 100 mph and nothing in between, I loathe heat. Y’all know this though.

I had a heat stroke as a teenager playing sports and it has completely ruined 6-7 months out of every year since then.

I know Jason and I joke because we are 180 of each other, but he will understand this. Those of us who competitively run or bike or whatever are always looking to compete against ourselves, always get better. Part of the reason I loathe heat (besides just walking outside and sweating when it’s over 75) is I KNOW I’m not going to set any personal bests, and I can’t stand that.

For instance, my average 5 mile run in 40-50 degree weather is roughly 31-33 minutes. This week I tried to run twice in the mornings when it was 70-72 degrees and my run was 39 and 40 minutes. I simply can’t breathe and regulate my temperature when it gets warm out. That is what heat and humidity do to me, and it’s why I go inside to train once we hit Spring.

Yep, I hear you. My tolerance for running in the heat has gotten lower as I have gotten older. I used to run and train for track and play tennis after school, in the heat of the day, and it never bothered me. Although I will have to say, one day for Summer band, DFW hit 105 or 107 (which was darn hot back in 1990/1991) and that was no fun. But for the most part, the heat didn’t bother me.

Now, I struggle to run if it’s over 80 and it cuts my speed down quite a bit. If it’s over 85, forget it. My ideal running temperature is 76-78. When it’s colder than about 70, my muscles and joints take too long to get really loose and for me to find the groove for my pace. It’s like 15 minutes of getting there.

When it’s below about 55 it starts getting uncomfortable for me, especially if the air is dry.

My cutoff used to be about 40 degrees. Even in the 40’s I’d still run in gloves and running leggings/compression pants.
This year, I said forget that. If it wasn’t warm enough to run in shorts, I stayed inside. I just took more days off.

I used to run indoors on the treadmill but had to give that up. I was starting to have joint issues and my OT wife diagnosed me with repetitive joint stress (this is common for treadmill use). I went to running outside exclusively and all those issues went away.

By the way….unless I’m dressed-up for a wedding…yes, I do like to sweat. I think growing up in Florida and as a runner, I must mentally associate sweat with positive energy and release endorphins. Sweating feels good to me. I drinks lots of water so sweating is part of cleansing and sweating away those toxins.

Our retirement home will have a sauna. A wet one.

A long time ago a drunk driver hit our car and led to an auto-immune problem that affects my hypothalamus. So, not a fan of the heat although the condition has improved over the years. I was once an athlete. Now I'm just trying to lose weight and get rid of the "COVID 19!"

What do you guys recommend for a home weather station? Our old cheapo La Crosse unit bit the dust finally. I don't necessarily need one with an anemometer, but it seems like all the ones that just do temp / humidity have big accuracy problems.

81°F but the DP is about 60°.

I hate turning on the A/C, but because it's not ridiculously humid and lows will reach the 50s, I'll allow it.

It’s the best weather station I’ve ever owned so far. Good longevity. Pretty durable.

That one is pretty cool, but we really don't need all those features. Simple temp and humidity will suffice, so long as they are reasonably accurate.
