Well the 18z says let's do it and it's about 144 hrs so let's see if the trends continue

Finally got a chance to look at the 18z GFS. Man that model run is pure craziness. After the big winter storm around hour 300, our source region loads up again with a 1060+mb high that looks poised to move down south as well. That may have been the craziest model run I’ve seen in a really long time.

Well it’s over Greenland so it wouldn’t necessarily mean that it would provide us colder weather. Blocking over Greenland basically just slows systems down and causes deeper troughs over the lower 48. The highs coming out of Canada are what provides us colder weather.

The 0Z GFS and ICON have the storm back now , and both show a strong gulf low developing with widespread precip across the state, the GFS is colder with evaporative cooling taking place and causing the temps to fall into the mid to low 30s in the area with plenty of moisture. Basically both models are very close to showing a major winter storm for the state,they just need to trend slightly colder.

Yeah I really hope that trough ends up digging a little further west. If it does that it should bring down some colder air. I guess the direction of the high pressure will determine a lot and also how strong the ridging is out west. You don’t want the ridging to be too strong out there.
