October 2021
I’m literally wearing my mask today at work just so I don’t breathe in all the dust that’s flying around everywhere. It’s like a dust storm out at my job..terrible. My eyes are thanking me as well.
Hobby is reporting a wind gust of 43mph, and Bush with a 40mph gust so far.

Or as people from the Panhandle/South Plains/West Texas like to say..."just another day."
LOL yes indeed they get these kind of winds pretty often up there.

.AVIATION [18Z TAF Issuance]...
VFR conditions will prevail through the duration of the TAF period
with clear skies expected. However, strong northwest winds
continue across the area through the remainder of the afternoon
with gusts between 30 and 40 knots anticipated through 00Z. Winds
relax slightly at the surface overnight, but remain at around 40
to 50 knots at 2000ft. As a result, have included wind shear
groups after 00Z at most terminals. Tomorrow, wind gusts taper off
slightly but remain elevated, reaching around 25 knots during the
afternoon at most locations.

Getting wind gust over 50mph now... Hobby NW 24 G 51 mph Now over 86,000 without power in the centerpoint area now. Preliminary wind gust from the NWS, showing the university of Houston measured a gust of 63mph! Impressive for non storm winds around here.

Right. They'd call it "Thursday."

30G 40 NW advection in CLL. It was inside in CLL. Even more dramatic here. We have a NW facing street that comes to a T on the other side of our street and between us and the neighbor. Wind Tunnel Action.

Me too! power outages are now over 120,000 in the centerpoint area alone not including surrounding areas.

We lost power for 5 min in CLL. I was freaking out, because I just picked up my main home office computer yesterday, after it was sidelined for a month because of damage due to power surges.BlueJay wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 4:03 pmWe have power up here in The Woodlands but it has been flickering all afternoon long. Everything is cool...for the moment.
What a weak power grid...
Something to watch is the disturbance coming in with the cold front next week.Global models have gotten a little more aggressive with it and are showing cyclogenisis taking place.Forming potentially our first Gulf Low of the season. And could be a heavy rain threat depending on parameters.
