The 12Z WRF suggests some storms firing along the Cold Front early tomorrow and developing into a line of shower/storms as the front passes SE TX. Amounts still look a bit meager, but perhaps a 1/2 inch of rain may not be out of the question for those lucky few...

Time to put away the coat, gloves, hat and tights and break out the shorts and sleeveless jerseys for some long bike rides.

Heavy thunderstorm with in NW Harris County. So long pollen!

Thanks for sending them our way Steve!! We need them!! Storms moving through right now in Spring Branch. Very little precip initially, but plenty of CG and winds gusting around 35 mph. Looked real nasty as the gust front came through, but no rotations noted that I could see. Rain is starting in earnest now. Hope we get as much as the radar indicates we might. We have had less than an inch of rain so far this year.

A little over 3/4 of an inch in the old rain bucket. No more dust, wxman57.

HCOEM rainfall map suggest about 1/2" in my neighborhood, which is about half way from the SW corner of the 610 loop to the SW corner of the Beltway.

0.43" in my gauge. Hopefully my allergies will be a little better for a few days.

Only 0.32" in Westbury (Hillcroft/West Belfort).

I sure am glad we got some rain to knock back the dust and pollen temporarily. I say temporarily because I had a nice fresh coat of pollen on my truck when I left to go to work this morning.

Ok, I think it's just about safe enough for me to plant my garden now. My taters have been in the ground since mid February and I planted my jalepeno garden a week and half ago. I believe tomorrow I will plant 70+ tomato plants, squash, cucumber, bush beans and okra. I love this time of year.

Should have put the tomatoes in weeks ago. They don't produce fruit well once daily temps don't drop below 70F.

I have had a big garden for many a year and as long as I plant on or before Good Friday I am good. I grow anywhere from 60 to 80 tomato plants a year along with okra, squash, cucumber, bush beans, taters, jalepenos etc. One tomato bush will produce upwards to around 30 to 40 tomatoes, sometimes more. Go big or go home!!

I actually have 3 veggie gardens on my property. Here are pics of the two I have up front from last year. These pics were taken the beginning of May. I also have a big garden out back behind my house.


Sorry for the derailment of this thread...just trying to keep the thread going in a very boring weather pattern.

Too bad I don't like tomatoes. I don't even like to touch them. Perhaps I was attacked by a tomato as a baby.

My father was a chemistry teacher and worked at a nursery on the side. He loved to grow tomatoes. His method was to take a plant about a foot tall and pull off all the leaves but the top 2 then plant the tomato plant so that only the top 2 leaves were above the ground. This encouraged very deep root production. I remember he used a lot of fish emulsion, too.

I do the same thing...plant my tomatoes with only the tops sticking out for deeper root growth. I do that will all my veggies actually. Your pops knew exactly what he was doing.

So how are we looking wxman? What are your thoughts of anymore freezes before the it starts to warm up real good.
