This front has definitely come in stronger than expected, or it looks that way to me. We are currently at 35.2f and continuing a steady drop. Even if the rate slows we should easily be in the upper 20's to 30f by morning(I'm just inside the Beltway near Hammerly and Gessner). I will be surprised if there isn't a lowering of the progged lows for tonight and tomorrow night. To top it off the wind is still 10-20 mph and gusty which means we are still getting plenty of mixing and no radiational cooling of consequence.

We don't have the snow, but we certainly have the cold. Bitter cold even for some... Ahem! Wxman57.. :)

Interesting days ahead. Hopefully my giving up will mean some winter precip. around here before winters end.
It usually does!!!! Lol

This is off topic, but do any of you have any intention to go to Mardi Gras next month.

How come it's nearing freezing already? Nobody predicted this.

Yea the front has come in a lot stronger than predicted. I am at 35-36 as of now and still dropping. I will probably get colder than I did last time.

-42 at International Falls currently!

35.2 F here and falling pretty fast. I hope it doesn't freeze because I told my neighbors they didn't need to cover the plants...

With a dew-point in the middle 20's I am pretty sure you will at least hit 32.

Interesting 6Z GFS run for the end of the month. 1983-1989-type freeze and snow to the coast. Of course, it's only one run in a model that is flopping all over the place in the long run. Note the temps on the 6Z meteogram below are NOT highs/lows. They're the midnight and noon temperatures forecast by the 6Z GFS. Note the NOON temperature of 18F on Wed. Feb 2nd:

Lots of snow down south, too:

Will it happen? Probably not. Will I see 80F in the next few weeks? Only indoors if I turn up the heat a lot.

I saved this image from Tuesday. The GFS has been hinting a significant storm may happen during this time frame since then. Interesting to say the least. And where did this cloud cover come from? That was not expected...

I know it is so far away but at the same time it is rare for even the gfs to show this type of cold air coming down. Low's in the lower teens is not something you see everyday from the gfs even in the long long range. As you said though way to far out to be anything more than speculation.

JB had an interesting video update on the freebie accuweather site yesterday. He is suggesting the pattern may well produce a 1993 Super Storm type system. He may be on to something... ;)
