What are the odds of the 20-30% chance of rain this weekend completely evaporating like every other opportunity?
I challenge everyone to show bigger cracks in their yard. I have the Grand Canyon. I have a fence perimeter like this bordering a whole acre. No way I can possibly water it enough.

Man, I would’ve been watering the hell out of that at the first sign of cracks.
We have the greenest yard in CoCo. I’m also on well water so it’s not a huge bill like it would be in a MUD.

That’s crazy. I haven’t seen anything like that since I lived on the blackland prairies of Plano and Frisco.
Looks like Tampa was mostly spared. All my friends and family down there have power. My aunt in Dunedin sent me a photo of her pool. My pool looked worse than hers after that June storm we had.
Between all the broken limbs from that and the brown ones now, the trees around here don’t look good.

Those expansive clay "vertisols" are the most useless soil order ever. They plague the eastern-half of Texas in both the "Blacklands" and the "Gulf Coast plains" and they are good for nothing other than wrecking properties, foundations, gardening potentials, etc.
Contrast that with pine forest areas north of I-10: those areas have the superior "ultisols", which have all the benefits of clay (good water retention), but without the expansive attribute (different clay mineral) as well as acidic pH (allows growth for many Southern US delights).
There are ways to disintigrate vertisols (i.e. large scale composting), but the methods would take too long for how quickly people want to keep building new homes/subdivisions in this area.

Yeah. My soil is horrible. I can only hope the builder put a good base under the slab (I doubt it). I did work hard to put a 10 foot perimeter of good topsoil all around the slab though and keep that in good shape with regards to moisture.
That gray clay is worthless. It killed 3 trees on the side of our house - by drought or drowning.
