Wow1 These thunderstorms have significantly weakened prior reaching the city of Baytown. I am not even seeing any lightning or hearing any thunder.

What kills more Americans. Severe thunderstorms, or winter precip. Avalanches, exposure, and driving accidents. In inverse order, probably.
Driving accidents kill more Americans than severe thunderstorms, winter precipitation, avalanches, and exposures combined. Let's see.

Thunderstorms
157 Deaths Annually On Average
208 Deaths Annually On Average (1979-2008)
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/weweb/Research ... ts/DDS.pdf
http://www.weather.gov/os/hazstats.shtml

Winter Weather
33 Deaths Annually On Average (1999-2008)
http://www.weather.gov/os/hazstats.shtml

Avalanches
20 Deaths Annually On Average
http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... hite-death

Exposures (Cold and Heat)
183 Deaths Annually On Average (1999-2008)
Heat=162 (1999-2008)
Cold=21 (1999-2008)
http://www.weather.gov/os/hazstats.shtml

Driving Accidents
37,261 Deaths In 2008
41,829 Deaths Annually On Average (1994-2008)
http://www-fars.nhtsa.dot.gov/Main/index.aspx

Pick your poison. :mrgreen: Americans have a far better chance of getting killed in car accidents than any of the weather events.
