AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
912 PM CST THU FEB 11 2010

.DISCUSSION...
PRECIP IS BEGINNING TO CHANGE OVER ACROSS THE FAR NORTHERN
COUNTIES AS ANTICIPATED AS THE ATMOSPHERIC COLUMN COOLS WITH THE
ARRIVAL OF THE SHORTWAVE. HAVE RECEIVED REPORTS OF HEAVY SNOW
FALLING IN BRYAN WITH SNOW ACCUMULATING ON CARS...AND SLEET
CHANGING OVER TO SNOW IN MADISONVILLE. THE OB IN CROCKETT JUST SHOWED
A CHANGEOVER TO SNOW AS WELL TEMPS HAVE QUICKLY DROPPED TO NEAR
FREEZING IN THESE AREAS. METARS HAVE BEEN SHOWING SOME PERIODS OF
RAIN OR EVEN FREEZING RAIN DURING THE CHANGEOVER PERIOD...SO HAVE
ADDED -FZRA TO THE MIX FOR THIS EVENING. EXPECT THAT BY AROUND
MIDNIGHT IT WILL GO TO MOSTLY SNOW ACROSS THE NRN COUNTIES.

EXPANDED THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY TO INCLUDE BURLESON...BRAZOS...AND
GRIMES COUNTIES. THE BACK EDGE OF THE MAIN PRECIP SHIELD HAS REACHED
THE I-35 CORRIDOR...AND WILL CLEAR THE NW ZONES BY 2 AM. 00Z NAM
SHOWS NO PRECIP OCCURRING BEYOND THIS TIME FRAME. WILL KEEP ADVISORY
GOING UNTIL 6 AM HOWEVER AS BRIDGES/OVERPASSES LIKELY TO REMAIN ICY.

THE 00Z NAM SHOWS IMPRESSIVE JET DYNAMICS RESULTING IN ANOTHER
ROUND OF PRECIP AFTER MIDNIGHT OVER EASTERN ZONES...WITH FCST
SOUNDINGS AT KLFK STILL SHOWING A SATURATED COLUMN WELL INTO LATE
TONIGHT. SO A MORE PROLONGED PERIOD OF HEAVY SNOW EXPECTED FOR
THIS AREA. WILL KEEP THE NE ZONES JUST ADVISORY LEVEL FOR
NOW...BUT WILL MONITOR THINGS CLOSELY AND WILL CONSIDER UPGRADING
TO A WARNING IN THE HOUSTON/TRINITY COUNTY AREA IF NECESSARY.

UPDATED PRODUCTS OUT SHORTLY.

Seeing some enhancement N of KVCT...profile still too warm except over our N counties where change over has developed...however it is cooling...could see IP/RA mix possibly SN/RA mix into NW Harris and much of Montgomery County...actually better chances look like over in deep SE TX in LA.

I'm here just south of Lake Conroe Dam. Nothing but a cold rain so far. We had a few sleet pellets out near Magnolia around 7:30 but that is all I have seen. I'll keep an eye out till I hit the hay in a couple of hours.

Still a very cold rain here in far southern Walker County. I'll be up for awhile, and will report in if it does change to snow. (Keeping fingers crossed! Oh wait...then I won't be able to type... ;) )

Yes, I did not get much. Though more would have been ideal, it was enough to be excited over. I loved the huge flakes, and watching it come down so heavy. The end result was about a dusting, but it was more than we expect in these parts. I'm excited over the new and improved s.e. Texas winters. Ah, if only we were DFW tonight. I long to build a snowman again.

Keep this in mind folks.. Whatever you get tonight, just remember that this appears to be a primer for what could come later this month. More on that as the days progress.

I can't make it out for sure but it appears that there might be some small flakes (more like particle size) blowing in the wind in metro Houston near the Galleria. Anyone else see this?

I've got my son going back and forth to the window to see if any flakes are mixing in...still nothing so far (central Montgomery County).

Must be a false alarm. I can't imagine that we would have it down here if you all up north did not.

You're probably seeing drizzle. The type of snow developing across Texas is producing HUGE flakes, not tiny ice crystals more common in colder air. If it starts snowing, you'll know it.

I wish for snow, not the heavy one like in DC. Makes it more interesting.

wxman, thermometer is down to 36 and flag is blowing from the north, think we could see a mix before it's said and done? especially with light redevelopment out to the west?

LOVE the new Forum....Anyways, the Accuweather radar extends the Frozen precip line into Northern Harris County(I know it's not accurate). Looks like we have a short window to actually squeeze something out as the moisture is exiting.
