Other than to melt ice on your property, it may not make any difference as the surface streets may well have issues with the extreme cold. Also you would need to make sure the ice melting salt will work at the forecasted temperatures. Ice melting salt is typically very corrosive for concrete and pets and it should not be used on wood decking.

Sometimes I think jim doesnt know what he is doing...I never watch fox for weather
When we first moved here, I thought Cecilia Sinclair on Fox was pretty good.

I have a lot of various opinions of Houston OCMs, but let's just say I grew-up watching Roy Leep on WTVT and Harold Taft on KXAS, so I have some pretty high standards.

Wunderground upping accumulation in SW Houston to 2.5 inches between Sunday night and Monday morning combined. Especially love the “1 to 3 inches of snow expected” on Monday.

Frank at Ch. 2 said maybe an inch of snow for us but expecting more of a “miserable icy mess.”

Travis at Ch. 13 says ice could “paralyze and cripple the city for days” and mentions changeover to snow detected by their model on Monday after it starts with freezing rain.

Hate to say it, but that's what I see. A layer of ice, then sleet, finished off with some snow.

The ice is what I am worried about. I friend of mine west of Georgetown just posted a picture of a live oak snapped in half from the ice. Pines and live oaks both do not like ice, and they are everywhere around here.

Blake from Ch. 11: Snow and ice accumulation all the way to the beaches, “it does look like there could be a significant amount of snow and ice, even here in the city of Houston,” possibly “heavy” with the snow. Another round of snow on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. He talks about the weather system over performing and how off the GFS has been with underestimating temperatures and that the Euro says no on the warm nose and brings plenty of cold. He seemed more aligned with the Euro assessment. Here is the video:

True but at least it’s informed speculation! Hope Blake and the Euro are right and we don’t see much in the way of freezing rain in the city.
