December 2019: Warming Trend/Weekend Rain/Christmas Outlook
No but weve must recently had many of our ice storms that month! So February can be very cold. From what what I remember especially in 2011 and 2014.
Here in Wharton County we really didn’t have much ice from those events. The precipitation was so light here it barely even amounted to anything, but however, it was definitely very cold.

Last real bad, region wide ice storm was February 2011. 2014 had a good one I-10 north but the South side was just rain.

Picked up 1.32 inches of rain in Magnolia.

I figured it out.
Real uncertainty in the models for cold and winter weather ahead. Euro, GFS, Canadian all have divergent solutions.
Seasonable temps over the next couple of days. The sun is out, so enjoy the great weather.

The meteorological winter is Dec-Jan-Feb. We are almost 1/3 of the way through it. The annual minimums for IAH bottom out from January 3rd - January 24th (mean is 43F - 63F).
We will begin those lowest averages in a week from now. Average temps begin to warm again on January 25th.
Jan 1996? - snow/ice
Dec 2004 (toward Houston) major snow
Jan 2007 - ice
Dec 2008 - snow
Mar 2008 - snow
Feb 2010 - snow
Jan 2014 - sleet/mix
Dec 2017 snow
Jan 2018 snow
Nov 2018 snow
Nov = 1
Dec = 3
Jan = 5
Feb = 2
Mar = 1
About what I'd expect. The Nov and March flukes were pretty cool.
I will saw the frequency of winter events in 30 years in this area of Texas is a LOT higher over the last 15 years than the previous 15.
Almost a perfect bell curve, peaking in January, just like our coldest temps.DoctorMu wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 2:46 pmFeb 1994? - iceCpv17 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 9:35 pmI’ve lived here over 30 years and all 3 accumulating snow events for me happened in December. I'm not one to make fun of anyone but...I did as you asked and bookmarked it...is it too soon to make fun of you? Now, I'm sticking to my gut and saying there will be no more winter weather for the remainder of the season. Nobody wants to believe me....but at some point you will say "Looks like he was right, afterall". Either way, it's all good .MontgomeryCoWx wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 1:15 pmActually, it is if you look at our source region the next couple of weeks coupled with the progression in the Pacific.
My target for a big blast is the 3rd-7th timeframe. Bookmark this and make fun of me or say thank you then
