Storms to our West in Lavaca and Fayette Counties now showing overshooting cloud tops on zoomed in visible imagery. We need to monitor these super cells closely as cloud tops are cooling and lightning has really increased the last half hour. Colorado, Austin and Waller Counties needs to pay close attention. I am somewhat concerned of the overall slow movement of this area of storms and heavy rainfall. The lunch hour into the afternoon rush hour may be impacted.

Aircraft sounding in the past hour are showing a cap around 750 MB. With that in place I am wondering if these storms will start to fall apart as they close in on the metro area.

Looks to be. Cells to the SW arent coming this way and ones to the due west will probably swing wide north. Everything else is calm.

New storms starting to fire north of Laredo. We’ll need to keep an eye on that area.

The storm in Colorado County appears to be weakening as it moves closer towards the capped area.

from their site:
Thunderstorm Outlooks

SPC issues Thunderstorm Outlooks that depict the probability of thunderstorms across the contiguous United States in 4 or 8 hour time periods. The probabilistic forecast directly expresses the best estimate of a thunderstorm occurring within 12 miles of a point. The three probabilistic forecast thresholds are: 10, 40, and 70 percent. The following table details the outlook issuance time and then the valid times for up to three forecast periods.

0600Z: 1200-1600Z, 1600-2000Z, 2000-0000Z
1300Z: 1600-2000Z, 2000-0000Z, 0000-0400Z
1700Z: 2000-0000Z, 0000-0400Z, 0400-1200Z
2100Z: 0000-0400Z, 0400-1200Z
0130Z: 0400-1200Z

Forecasts of thunderstorms are critical for the protection of life and property since every thunderstorm contains lightning, which is a potential killer. The enhanced temporal resolution of the SPC Thunderstorm Outlooks aid NWS forecasters and partners in time-sensitive decisions related to thunderstorms.

Rainfall over the last 24 hours plus rainfall over the next 24 hours will spread the river flooding threat to the Texas coast (think generally east of I-35 and I-37!) And any rain over E TX will generate runoff and new flooding! Be flood prepared! #txflood

I would imagine there’s some pretty good wind coming through Navasota with that echo bowing out.

Everything is staying north of 10 once again. I hope it’s our turn south of 10 later today. Need a couple inches out here in Wharton.
