Been holding at 45F at my house since noon, even with more sun peeking out. The park and trails were empty when I went home for lunch. Apparently nobody cares to be out on this chilly day....I know I don’t.

It’s warmed up a bit here in Wharton. We’re up to 47 now with partly cloudy conditions. Still very windy here. We might have been one of the winners in the rain department. Picked up 1.7” here overnight into this morning. A few degrees off from an epic snowstorm.

We could be facing the coldest weather of the season Tuesday into Wednesday. Thankfully we look to get a glancing blow from the Polar Vortex over The Great Lakes and Upper Mid West. Not sure I've seen the Euro Ensembles so strong at 500mb and this cold at 850mb. Wind chill values could approach the -40F range if not lower beneath the Vortex. Brutal!

Yes, but will we get any precip? That's the $1 million question! LOL!

Still holding at 45F at the house. Dew point 31 — will be watching that number tonight. Time to get home, bundle up and cover the plants just to be safe.

Dang it's chilly out there. Winds are relaxing as High Pressure centers overhead.

Low temps overnight have been trimmed back pretty good from 32 to 26 per NWS for my area. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a degree or 2 lower at first light tomorrow morning. I also expect next weeks front to be colder than this one but don't see any decent wintry weather threats with it unless I missed something?

Whoa!! I just noticed that! It was lowered from 32 down to 29 for me. I hate these last minute changes. At least it’s updated now and not at 11pm tonight when we’re all sleeping. Thank goodness I prepared!

On the drive home today, not a soul was at the park and I didn’t see any walkers/runners on the trails. Yesterday was packed.

Got home and with no wind, it wasn’t bad at all while covering the plants a couple of hours ago. Just got back from dinner and it’s definitey getting chilly now. Temp is down to 39...

Similar to today’s scenario, which fwiw the Canadian had nailed 5 days.

The cold column looks a little deeper.

I gotta be honest. The wind and cold in Galveston and back in BCS doesn’t bother me at all.

I’m grateful to have $58 natural gas bills instead of $600 A/C and water bills.

Jason, I have one word for you: Greenhouse 😎. And not Effect. Lol

Just enjoying the change of pace until 70 degree dewpoints strike again!

Hehe the lower utility bills are indeed much better.

One of my coldest experiences ever in life was a chilly, blustery night years ago at Festival of Lights on the island.

Greenhouses - good ones - can get quite expensive. But maybe something to look into, after the pool goes in.

37 here now. Dew point still 31. Perhaps the ground moisture will keep the temps up, but there might be a lot of frost in the morning. A heavy frost can wreak more havoc on tender plants than a freeze. At least mine are covered :)

Very heavy frost out there this morning. Most locations except for S and E of Downtown to the Coast have seen at least a light freeze.

A chilly 29 with heavy frost here this morning. Whatever green was emerging from the lawn just got torched.

Onto watching next week’s system.

Both Bush and Hobby recorded light freezes overnight -

Bush got down to 30 at 5AM and has since remained at that temperature.
Hobby got down to 32 shortly before 7AM.

Models have trended slightly warmer for the cold front next week, I expect though it will trend back cooler as we get closer in. Should see another light freeze next Wednesday night.
