Light rain falling across NW Harris County. In about 12 hours it should be a different story in my neighborhood. Stay safe and stay off the Freeways and Beltway if possible tomorrow.

I'm in Stafford and work in SW Houston, Beltway 8 Westchase area. I can work from home so probably a good idea to just stay put? I usually get in early and would be able to leave early.

Since you can work from home, why risk this event over achieving current expectations? I continuing to see more and more evidence of mesoscale banding features developing around noon and continuing into the afternoon/early evening suggesting potentially higher precipitation totals. Typically we only get about 4 to 6 hours of advance indications where the heaver precipitation will fall. It does not take much ice to create a travel nightmare in Metro Houston from my experience of winter weather events in SE Texas over the last 50+ years. If I were in your shoes, I'd stay put... but that's me... ;)

The Texas WRF is a little concerning, it’s been consistently showing mesoscale banding in the area.

Thank you! I've been teetering back and forth all day. I am going to stay put.

I saw the list of school closings on the news. Just about every school district in Texas is closed. I live upstairs and after noon tomorrow, I'll probably be stuck inside like I was when Harvey blew through. What do you think Mont. County will have? Sleet/ice or snow?

Also, can someone explain mesoscale banding to me?

MoCo will go from frz rain/sleet and transitions to snow around rush hour. We could see an inch of snow, maybe 2 if a meso band sets up over us

My thought is think of a squall line in a thunderstorm. Now, think of a squall line of snow, ranging from a few miles to three states long!!!

Pretty good description.

Snow banding is a concentration of falling snow over a short period in a small area like longitudinally speaking. Usually, the systems are oriented west to east.

I know someone mentioned Texas A&M closing tomorrow. Remember, Texas A&M has three system campuses, College Station, Galveston and Doha, Qatar. We'll not worry about the Qatar campus at this time, but my Sea Aggie alert has told me the Galveston campus will be CLOSED tomorrow. So, if your kid/s don't live in one of the dorms on Pelican Island be sure to inform them NOT to come to the campus tomorrow.
My Sea Aggie Alert.
Galveston Texas, Jan. 15, 2018 -- Texas A&M University at Galveston will be closed tomorrow, Jan. 16, due to the potential for hazardous road conditions brought on by wintry weather. Only essential personnel as identified by their supervisors are required to report to campus, if they can do so safely.

This closure includes the following campuses: TAMUG Pelican Island Campus, College Station main campus, and the Health Science Center campuses in Bryan, Dallas, Round Rock, and Temple.

The School of Law in Fort Worth will remain open. They are monitoring conditions and will notify students via Code Maroon: Law Alert if there are any changes.

Dining services will remain operational at Captain's Landing

All other on-campus services will remain closed.

University officials are closely monitoring weather conditions to determine when campuses will reopen.

Officials urge the public to avoid driving and remain indoors until conditions improve. Use extreme caution when walking and moving about campus Tuesday evening.

The next scheduled update will be at 5pm on Tuesday 01-16-2018
