Greeting everyone. I an extremely pleased to announce that our friends at KHOU as well as the organizers of National Tropical Hurricane Conference 2015 being held on South Padre Island in early April are allowing me to attend this 'Broadcast Meteorologist' only Conference. I will be representing KHOU.com and our KHOU Weather Forum. Dr. Neil Frank will be receiving Robert & Joanne Simpson Award Medal. The medal is awarded to those who have outstanding contributions to the field of tropical meteorology and preparedness. Dr. Bob Sheets (former NHC Director) will also receive this years Award Medal. We also will have our very own wxman57 speaking Delivering Tropical Forecasts Globally followed by Josh Morgermam aka HurricaneJosh speaking on Odile: Impact on Los Cabos. Also speaking this year will be Bill Reed (Former Meteorologist In Charge NWS/Houston/Galveston Former NHC Director) as well as Max Mayfield (Former NHC Director), and current NHC Director Dr. Rick Nabb. Dr. Phil Klotzbach will also be speaking as well as many others during the Conference. I would like to publically thank Christine DiStadio, Director of KHOU.com for allowing me to represent our Weather Community and KHOU for this event. It is an honor to be able to attend and speaks well of our KHOU Weather Forum. We are fortunate to have so many that are committed to providing good and factual information regarding all forms of meteorology and its affect on our daily lives. We are also very fortunate to have so many that give of their time, knowledge and experiences to assist in Hurricane Preparedness to ALL of the Gulf Coast and beyond including our disabled Community. It takes a team of folks to make this a great Weather Community and for that we ALL can be grateful for what we have accomplished...together!

This year is already flying by. I too will be flying to S Padre next Wednesday for my second National Tropical Weather Conference. It was a very humbling experience to meet so many iconic individuals in the tropical weather. Looking forward to another amazing conference that I will get to share with Srain and WXman.

Hurricane season is looming. It could be pending on the El Nino.

I'm flying Southwest to Harlingen at 11:15am Wednesday. Arrive there an hour later. Are you on that plane?

I'll be arriving early at Hobby so that I can have lunch at Wendy's (or breakfast) since it will be about 9:30am... ;-)

Edit: Looks like I'll arrive at Hobby closer to 9am. Definitely breakfast at Wendy's (as you enter the area between the two terminal wings).

I do hope that the Conference is productive as we all want it to be. I am interested in hearing any feedback about the 2015 hurricane season-especially in the Gulf of Mexico-and whether or not El Nino will be a factor to minimize the hurricane season. Also, I would like to know if the experts believe whether or not all of the weather technology has interfered with some of the forecasting that is available to us regular folks. (I am trying to word this gently and am not throwing stones. It just seems like there has been some misforecasting over the past couple of years.)

Hurry home srain, wxman57 and katdaddy (and all who are attending this conference) and please report what you have learned.

Thank you for your questions BlueJay. We will certainly present those questions to the experts and post their response. We will begin providing updates tomorrow evening from South Padre Island. I talked to Doc Neil this afternoon and he is happy that the KHOU Weather Forum is being well represented. Look for a lot of photos and multiple updates daily in this thread as we share our experiences with our KHOU Weather Forum family.

I hear that srain is taking the same flight as Phil Klotzbach, so I'm sure they'll talk about the season on the way down to Harlingen. Looks like Dr. Neil Frank will be on my shuttle from Harlingen to the resort hotel. We arrive in Harlingen at about the same time.

I am chatting with Dr. Rick Knabb, Dr. Phil Klotzbach and Jason Samenow while waiting for our flight to depart. The experts suggest we may need to keep an eye on the Gulf this year... :(
