That red blob to the southwest of Houston looks like a severe cell making a b-line for the city. Is that going to hold up?

Lightning to my SW just now. Light freezing rain has started in NW Harris County. Temp down to 31F.

Let's see what effects is has on the temp there. Will it be evaporative cooling or will the moisture pull the upper warm layer down and mix to warm the surface?

I just started getting sprinkles here in my area of NW Harris....just sprinkles though.

Edit: OMG, wow. It started THUNDERING 5 seconds ago....oh my......caught me off guard. :shock:

Exactly. I see freezing rain more dangerous than snow. It is even more dangerous with sleet as it can cool the ground even faster.

The temp is finally starting to drop faster here 37.6F, a full degree in the last 30 minutes. I'm having to live this event vicariously through y'all Northerners.

That lightning was unexpected...can't remember when last I saw lightning here.

Strong cell holding up on approach from the southwest. Appears to have potential hail according to color graphics.
