I don't think either the Galveston or Lake Charles NWS office had a Doppler radar in 1979. Doppler radar had just been introduced back in the late 1970s, and there weren't many such radars out there. However, I remember printing out those old radar images when I started work here in Houston in 1980. We could look at a radar on a monitor, but we had to print a copy (like the ones pictured) to measure distances and calculate movement.
