I think they got a good snowfall in 1960? My sister was wee little and she was born in Jan 1960 and they have pics of her and my brother in the snow that's pretty deep.

0z GFS faster with the cold air through Dallas compared to the 12z run at hour 36. It would probably increase Dallas' chances of getting in on some of the wintry precip

Tuesday morning, Dallas is falling into the 20s while we're in the 60s here...

I've been out of the loop until tonight, is the arctic air coming down faster good for our chances of seeing wintry precip?

We did. My mom has pictures of me playing in that event, somewhere...

I might be off here but didn't the Houston area get a good snow in 1973 I believe? My parents have pictures of that event. I'm not positive on the year though.

Tuesday-Wend it doesn't really matter for us as we won't see snow. It is Thursday and Friday that matter because of the possible disturbance that could track across.

Is this event being compared to 1960 and 1973 snow events?

Man, this going to be one historic storm system for the Midwest. Feet of snow and ice all over the place

OKC is going to get a lot of snow with this one. I wonder if it will rival their biggest storm on record which was the Xmas 09 storm?

3 events. One in January that brought some 4-8 inch amounts to the E side of Houston and two smaller events in February of 73.

4.4 inches on Feb. 12, 1960 (http://www.wxresearch.com/snowhou.htm). According to this site, that is the most snow that the city of Houston has experienced, other than the 20 inches that fell in Feb. 1895. ;)

Records from the old DT Houston NWS office suggest the late 40's brought nearly 16 inches DT. ;)

Impressive disturbance to our W mid week. That SE ridge is popping up as well. Good night folks. It appears we have an interesting week ahead. Have fun...Oh, and the leading edge of the Arctic air mass just passed Dodge City, KS...

Apparently not a lot of moisture to work with, but still squeezes out some very light snow at hour 108...

It is such a robust system that will be moving across. You would almost look for a slight qpf increase in future runs if this track continues

It is definitely indicating a band of light snow moving through the area on friday

That 0c line is way off the coast, so no troubles there... Who knows, we may have something here. But, this still looks moisture starved at this time
