For those interested the wording out of memphis is strong reguarding this upcoming event, what caught my eye was the end of the statement i quote "this system has the potential to interupt commerce and society" Gulp,Yikes.....in reference to the weekend winter storm...

might not be as it doesn't take much ice to make an overpass or street a skating rink and you get a small amount on trees and powelines the the fun really starts....i know weve have a history of bad ice storms here in north louisiana.....and i never secondguess the weather service either...

Remember that Norman, OK mentioned 'Historic' and 'Major National Headlines' earlier. Also remember that Memphis is the major hub for FEDEX and UPS, if I recall correctly.

You know, Tim should really site his sources. NOBODY...NOBODY on air mentioned snow. Gene didn't. Frank didn't and Jim didn't. Now if it was mentioned on the morning show, then that's another story. Half his blog entries anyway are straight off the NWS page as it is. I spoke with somebody from the NWS on anomininity and he said it was possible but DID NOT believe this until a few more runs were available. Obviously, there was something to it for them to put it in the grids.

I agree. HGX's discussion was interesting this afternoon, mentioning frozen precip, yet no mention about snow or what type of precip.

There is nothing to post.. lot of cold.rain here sunday followed by dry cold air maybe a couple notes in mid.to upper 20s nothing we haven't had this year. So I see no need in being excited anymore.

Couldn't you fire up that snow machine at least at night when its below freezing? Unless upper 20's isn't quite cold enough...

While I understand any disappointment...never say never. Remember how "there was no chance in heck" that it would snow on Christmas Eve 2004 according to nearly all the Houston mets? I'll tell you what, I've never seen a forecast change so much so quickly before in a matter of hours. And I certainly think we're in for a lot more than "rain." While frozen precip might not occur...we are fairly confident about some pretty hard core storms blowing through here Saturday night, so by all means...we should stay on top of our game. I've got weather radios, flashlights, coffee and cocoa, extra warm blankets and jackets ready to go. ;)

I know that we are not looking at a Dec. 1989-type outbreak next week, but I am curious, if anyone knows, at what point did we get a grasp of just how cold it was going to be in Houston in terms of the 7 degree temps etc that the system brought down here. Was that in the forecast or were the forecasts tossed out the window? Thanks in advance.

Interesting point you raise, maybe some of our "seasoned" members can tell us how model guidance was prior to and how forecasters predicted the outbreak of December 1989.
