I'm pleased to see EWX do the right thing to alert public albeit late. As I've been saying, the models point to this storm being something Austin hasn't seen in several years.
you can see a loop of "Hazards" or move forward 1 at a time here http://graphical.weather.gov/sectors/so ... p.php#tabs
latest update 11:24 AM EST at the moment
edit to add the alternate/proposed replacement site option: http://preview.weather.gov/graphical/
and the experimental EDD site http://preview.weather.gov/edd/
you will need to select "Hazards" option on each of those

That's the theme for Houston this winter. A winter I hope soon goes bye bye, replaced by comfortable warmth.wxman57 wrote:Looks like cold rain for Houston tonight/tomorrow morning. Possibly with a few sleet pellets mixed in as the precip ends.
I'm confused about the wind gusts, so a little help would be appreciated.
NOAA official forecast says N wind gusts could rise as high as 35mph.
BUT
Wind advisory says expect gusts up to 45 (tropical storm force) mph.
Which is the more accurate?

Paul, the only areas that could see gusts that high is offshore in the Gulf which is common with these strong fronts. That is why there are Gale Watches and Warning hoisted for the offshore waters. Now across the Panhandle near Lubbock, that is a different story. They have zero visibility with blowing snow, but that ain't happen down here in SE Texas...in my best Texas vernacular...

I've been on two walks outside today. It's lovely. Lot of people were out walking/jogging/riding bikes along the Waterway.
Tomorrow I can guarantee you that I will be inside all day, except for sprinting to and from the parking garage, along with the other 99% of us who don't like 30's and wind, especially in March

I agree with you jasons! I am enjoying this warm weather too!
I did not realize that daylight saving time starts this Sunday, March 8th. Already? I was just getting used to standard time. I guess we won't feel like doing anything but sleeping in these next few days. Wish we could do that...

The front passed through Austin about an hour ago. Temps were 68, now 55.
In other words, if I try flying a kite over the Gulf from a boat, chances are I'll never see my kite again?
