Its mainly due to the proximity to the southeast ridge. The further east you are the greater influence it will have.
The coldest anomalies will funnel down the path of least resistance.

Yep. Most of the local forecasts were correct with the precip moving out just as the freezing temperatures moved-in. Very close...

Snowing like crazy outside right now, currently 15°F outside, I've estimated 8-10 inches of snow on the ground right now, this is just insane.

I'm sure it was mentioned previously in this thread and i missed it but what allowed it to mostly come down as non-frozen precip even when outside temps had been 32-29 in Cypress for a few hours in the evening with was mostly light rain mixed with a few sleet pellets? Was there a warm layer aloft that was melting it and it just didn't have time to re-freeze?

Freezing rain is still considered frozen precip since it forms a layer of ice on objects. But yes it was the warm layer aloft that caused more freezing rain than sleet. The air is very shallow so there is only a thin layer of subfreezing air at the surface. That was expected though, as most models were showing a freezing rain profile down here.

I know its early, but it looks like the next few cold bursts get shunted off to the east.

Good! This was enough cold for me. Thank god my palms now are hardy palms. But the ginger, Red Sister Ti plants, Brazilian red cloaks, red fire spike, hibiscus, plumerias, and Belize sage/salvia will all be frozen back to the ground.

I’m ready to break a sweat, clear out all the dead and re-arrange the beds around the pool hardscape. Couple more months until pool season! February will go by fast!

Thankfully it looks like we get a break from the cold for the next 10 days or so! I love the cold, just not with this damn wind!🥶🥶

22°F for the low as predicted. It will probably not get above freezing today in CLL with cold advection and clouds. Insects, weeds thwarted for now. It is good.

"It is the way."

NWS Corpus and Brownsville are both reporting extreme wind chills in the LSR. They are showing-up on RadarScope.

I’m about to layer-up for an HEB run. The family is craving chicken and dumplings. Layering is such a pain. It’s a process and I don’t have patience for that. It was my daily routine for three seasons every year out on the high plains. I don’t miss it.

Thermals? Our son sometimes walks in as a GA up in in U. Minnesota. That's the key.
